14-0 in the bottom of the 8th!?!

Mike Hampton is throwing a one hit shutout . . . AND just hit a solo shot for good measure.

Mercifully the game is over.

Braves hit 5 homers en route to a 16-0 victory and Hampton threw a 2 hitter. About as dominant a performance as you're ever going to see.

What an awesome output against the Astros! :good: Would like to see them save some of those runs for later on. :good: Helps out the batting average! :good:
Think the Marlins will be their fiercest competition.

well, smoltz pitched a pretty good game and kolb blew it for the braves. Rockies take 2 of 3 from Braves this week. :bad:

what do ya'll think about the Braves putting Reitsma as our closer and Kolb as his setup man..

That change may happen, but I think Kolb will have to blow up at least one more time. Bobby Cox is fiercely loyal and probably isn't going to make any pitching decisions based on anything that happens at Coors Field.

This isn't a problem just limited to the Braves though. Teams are blowing saves and getting their closers hurt all over MLB. I can't ever remember a year when more teams had trouble closing out games. Makes you realize just how good John Smoltz was.

Yeah, that would be my one biggest criticism of the Braves' skipper. He has a tendency to leave guys in a little long and stay with them even when they're struggling.

And you're right: Smoltz WAS that good.

It'll be interesting to see who Cox goes with to close this one out.

Braves may have bullpen issues.

There's no in between with the Braves bullpen. They are either lights out or full meltdown.
