The Official Braves Thread Of Volnation

Would you call Atlanta a pretender?

I'm not saying they might not fall apart again, but I'm going to have to see it to believe it. People have been writing off the Braves for about 3 or 4 years and it hasn't happened yet.

Fair enough. I'm still waiting on and expecting Houston to wake up and get hot again. With their track record the last couple of years along with Atlanta's over the last decade plus, those are the only two teams in the wild card hunt that I'd really have any faith in making a real push for the postseason.

Anyone involved with a braves message board?
we've been trying to get some chatter on http://www.braveschop.com. help us out. It's still a subforum of PJ's right now but if I can get some more members posting over there I will split it on it's own.

Oh, and they lost too.

Mets beat the Braves, so the Braves slipped to third, .5 game behind the Marlins and 13.0 behind the Mets.

The Reds also won.

What a CRAPPY day for the Braves.

In an attempt to further solidify their bullpen, the Braves obtained right-handed reliever Danys Baez and utilityman Willy Aybar from the Dodgers in exchange for Wilson Betemit. The deal was announced just after Friday night's game against the Mets at Turner Field.
Baez, who the Braves evaluated during the winter, is 5-5 with a 4.35 ERA in 46 appearances with the Dodgers this year. The 28-year-old right-hander has amassed 111 saves in 142 opportunities throughout his career.

Aybar has hit .250 with three homers and 22 RBIs in 22 games with the Dodgers this year. The Braves believe he's capable of filling the role played by Betemit, who has hit .281 with nine homers and 29 RBIs this season.

Like Betemit, Aybar is capable of playing all of the infield positions.

Im gonna miss Betemit's offense, not his defense. Hopefully Baez can be somewhat more consistant than the hooligans we have in the pen now.

The Braves now have two decent closers in Baez and Wickman. Their bullpen keeps getting better.

Odd move for the Dodgers... they picked up Baez from the DRays to be their closer because of health concerns with Gagne... Gagne is out for the year and now they shipped off Baez.

I don't like it.

The Braves fall 6.5 back in the WC and I think they gave Betemit away.

was there.. thought it was over after the first 2 inning..then it got better..only thing is, is was hot as HELL..Aybar is pretty good..I was wondering where betemit was today...but now i know..

I still wouldn't count them out of the Wild Card race.
Doesn't matter. They're no threat if they win the Wild Card. That would simply lead to more postseason embarassment for them. Also, you can see the cracks in the foundation. They're on their way down and it's beautiful to watch.

Perhaps. I have no room to talk about them being on the way down and about how bad they are this year, as they still managed to lay a whoopin' on the Cards. Then again, so did the Cubs.

The Mets pitching will get destroyed by whatever AL team they face in the Series, if they even make it there. Obviously, the Mets have a formidable lineup themselves. Beltran is making a big push for MVP.

What Tidwell said about the Mets is unfortunately probably true. I went to the Series this weekend and obviously had a better time that most. That video board at Turner Field puts everybody else's video screen to shame. I also liked the atmosphere, especially with the pre-game concert on Friday. Between the concert, Tooner Field, and the BBQ, it felt/sounded like a fair. The fireworks were great, especially considering that they shoot them off every Friday. My few complaints included the low amount of stats that were displayed, especially pitch counts and the current batter's complete stats. Then, unless my eyes had been playing tricks all weekend, those stats that I had been missing seemed to suddenly appear on Sunday. So, my only remaining complaint is the refusal to show a replay, including close plays, of anything that goes against the home team. I also learned the hard way Saturday how critical it is to get there early. Great ballpark in a great city. I think the biggest play of the weekend was Beltran's 2-out, 2-run single in the top of the second on Friday. The Braves had just knocked Pedro around to go up 4-2, and, surrounded by all of the chopping, it felt like it was once again the House of Horrors I had seen on tv. Then, Beltran comes through with 2 outs and ties the game in the next inning, which calmed things a bit, and the Mets never trailed again all weekend. Also, I did try the BBQ on Friday. It tasted great, but it later had a bit of a roller-coaster-in-your-seat type of effect. Good stuff, and I managed to stay in control. :ill_h4h: Good times. :dance2:
