The Official Larry Fedora Thread I

Hell of a recruiter, very agressive on both sides of the ball, has a winning record, and has big time experience. Currently coaching @ North Carolina...

If he was hired, would be interesting to see what Blake Anderson will do. If he hasn't taken southern miss job yet. Also would hope Dan discharge would come with him.

Reading the NC State scout forums to check out info on their coaching search and they have a 5 page thread thinking Fedora is going to Tennessee.

Fedora runs a blitz-heavy defense. He summed up his philosophy with a quote from George S. Patton--"Instead of waiting to see what might develop, attack constantly, vigorously and viciously. Never let up, never stop, always attack."

How much of a welcome sign would that thinking be with our defense here at Tennessee?

Of course Sal's "Keep them under 60" was another way to go.

Fedora should be at the top of the list. Not convinced the Gruden circus would be good for the long-term health of our program. I like what Fedora brings to the table and would be solid with the non-message board faction of the fan base .

This hire would put Dave Hart on my "people I hope die soon" list, right after Mike Hamilton.

Small chance we get Gruden (unless you take the rumors of message board posters over the info of the experts, and if so that's fine believe whatever), no chance we get Stoops. Patterson, Gundy, and Mora seem to have no buzz around them and TN at all lately.
So, IMO it's likely going to come down to someone like a Fedora, BJones, Fisher, or Golden. I would be happy with any of these for different reasons, but of I had to rate, I would go Fisher, Fedora, Golden, and Jones in that order. Fedora could win here though and that's what it's all about, right?

Posts like this just make me so sad to see how our fanbase thinks we should be fine with average coaches and 8-4, 7-5 seasons...

And you know for sure a Gruden hire would be a sure SEC title within 2 years? Gruden could come in here and have 2 losing seasons. Then what? Gruden had alot of 6-8 win seasons in the NFL and they play 16 games or more. Think about it. 60 million is a big roll of the dice.

I don't think Fedora is an average coach. And, I think he could eventually have us competing for championships.
But, I do prefer to try to reason through possibilities that are realistic, rather than message board dreams. I don't have anything against message board dreamers, it's just not my bag.

Fedora was 8 and 4 this season and lost to Duke and Wake Forrest which is strange since he beat Virginia Tech and Miami. You wonder why they couldn't get up for Duke and Wake Forrest.

Last year he beat #6 houston and lost to marshall and uab. Jus how it goes

i have a friend who claims to be "in" with one of the key players in our hiring process (i don't take him too seriously as he is a bit of a BSer). couple of weeks ago he told me that gruden was definitely "out" and that fedora was going to be our next coach.

fedora has potential, has had some success, and is praised by some "experts" -- just like golden, fisher, and others.

and, just like dooley was.

we need a proven long term winner, imo, not someone with one or two good seasons on his resume.

Dooley had one decent season at La Tech and was never an coordinator. Fedora had 4 good seasons at Southern Miss, with one of them being great. He won 8 games in his first year at UNC with three losses being really close. He has been a coordinator in the SEC and Big 12.

fedora looks better than dooley on paper, yes, although i don't consider a 7-5 season good.

both were praised by "experts" as up and comers.

we need someone already on top.

I'm pretty confident his recruiting would be much better than Fedora.

It will because of his name. But Fedora is a great recruiter.

who cares how it happens? Tons of kids are interested in Bama just b/c Saban's name. Fedora may turn this into a 8-9 program, but I want more than that.

Did I say I would rather have Gruden over Fedora? To ignore Fedora as a great coach just because his name isn't Gruden is dumb.

I'd rather have Fedora then Strong any day. But he's not leaving Carolina after one year. Once again, not every coach is Kiffin.

Confirmed. Good friend of mine spoke with Larry Saturday and he's already in recruiting mode for the TarHeels.
