The Official NASCAR Talk Thread

Have they ever looked at the correlation between their TV ratings and their constantly adding gimmicks and wrinkles to something that was once very straightforward? Outside of distributing points from 43-1 I don't know that there's been a change in the last decade that made sense.

While I mostly agree, I don't mind the chase.

Did they announce changes to the schedule? Rumors that they were going to run the road course for the fall Charlotte race

To be honest I'm intrigued by the change to the points it sounds I like it could bring a little more excitement to the halfway point of races especially late in the season to pick up points.

One other thing I wouldn't mind seeing is adding the "Caution Clock" that they used in some truck races last season to certian tracks that aren't known for a lot of cautions to help bunch the field back up. To help cut down on some those long green flag runs that basically cuts out any excitement on some races.

If you're going to artificially bunch the field up on a timer why bother running 400 or 500 miles? Make the Cup series races the length that Busch races are now and be done with it. All a caution clock does is matginalize excellence in the name of creating drama.

Good Lord the races are already too long as it is. Now they're gonna break them up into segments and make them even longer. Brian France has managed to completely destroy the sport his father and grandfather built. The product now barely even resembles what it was 10- 15 years ago.

Might as well add points for drifting. Maybe throw a jump ramp or two in.

I hope he gets a full season. That said they need to produce wins. I think Bubba has the talent, but he seems to struggle getting the car set up.

Wallace expects to run full season: #6-Bubba Wallace was asked about his 2017 plans during the media tour on Wednesday:
Q: WHAT IS YOUR SPONSOR OUTLOOK FOR THIS YEAR?
Wallace: "I'm thankful for Leidos, a military defense company, has stepped up and has been a great partner to Roush Fenway and the number six team the last half of last season and they're stepping up again for a handful of races. We're in kind of a little tight spot here. We're trying to figure out the rest of the game plan, but our goal is to be at Homestead for the season finale and win the XFINITY Series championship. We just have to overcome some obstacles, get over a couple hurdles to get to that point, but we will be at Daytona. We've still got the same mindset of going in to win every race, do the best we can each and every weekend and put ourselves in the right position, especially with this new format. I'm gonna really enjoy it."
Q: WHAT HAS THE OFF-SEASON BEEN LIKE? STRESSFUL WAITING FOR A DEAL?
Wallace: "We have the first six races right now with a 99 percent chance we'll have more after that. The biggest thing is we haven't had the best year the last two years, so we just need better results to bring and a more positive outlook. I believe the changes we have made, along with the new format coming up for the whole sport of NASCAR, will definitely help that out. I couldn't be more excited about this season. Yeah, it's not set in stone that it's a full season, but that doesn't change my outlook or my attitude or anything."
Q: IS THERE AN OPPORTUNITY THAT LEIDOS WILL UP THEIR COMMITMENT AFTER THE SEASON STARTS?
Wallace: "Absolutely. That's how it's gonna work. We just have to show out this first six races, show all of our cards, show what we have done in the off-season."(Ford Racing)(1-25-2017)

That's the equivalent of the NFL resetting the score of every game to 0-0 at the end of each quarter. Nascar is taking the race out of the driver's hands when they do things like that and putting it in the hands of the officials.

He should have stayed with Gibbs. Not sure if he had to leave due to lack of sponsorship or on his own. He's very talented and he has a good head on his shoulders

I think he left due to lack of sponsors. Also Joe Gibbs had Daniel Suarez and Erik Jones.

If they keep the banana peel cautions in place, most races will be over 5 hours long. We'll probably see another change at mid-season or for next year.

I'm pretty much growing apart from NASCAR. Besides the 500, talladega, and the short tracks, I don't care. The pickem contest is the only thing that'll generate my interest week to week.
