The Official Tennessee @ Auburn Series Thread (Fri. April 5th 7PM EST) (Sat. April 6th 4:30PM EST) (Sun. April 7th 2PM EST) (All Games On SECNET+)

It’s starting to seem like this team kind of thrives going down 1 to start the series. My heart would be happy if that didn’t continue. But man this has been a fun season so far. Hitting from the top to the bottom of the lineup. Go Vols.

I go fishing all day in the Cumberland Plateau backcountry and get back to service to see we laid an industrial sized drum of whoop ass on em to claim the series! After how cocky they were Friday night, the last two outings are super satisfying. LSU, you’re next!!!!

Were they biting?

Every single Tennessee starter Sunday had at least one hit. Every single one of them. Most of them had multiple hits. In a seven-inning game. The Vols had 30 men reach base. In a seven-inning game.

How D1's Top-5 fared this week:

1. Arkansas 4-0 Soft week with Arky State and Ole Miss
2. Clemson, 4-0 Ditto USC Upstate and at Notre Dame. The Irish did lost by 1 run in last 2 games
3. Texas A&M 3-1 @ Texas State and @ South Carolina (2-1)
4. Tennessee 2-1
5. Oregon State 5-0 2 wins vs. Gonzaga and 3 vs sub.500 Az State
6. Florida 1-3 FAMU win. Swept by Missouri (they will absolutely tumble WAY out of the top-10 as their 17-14 record can no longer be ignored by voters
7. Vanderbile 2-1 took 2 at struggling LSU
8. Dallas Baptist 2-2 Tarleton W and 2 losses at WKO
9. Duke 4-0 W @ Liberty and swept Miami in Durham
10. North Carolina 1-2 2 losses at UVA
11. Va Tech 0-3 Swept at home by resurgent Wake Forest
12. East Carolina. 3-1 Big win @ NC State and 2 wins over FAU.
13. Alabama 1-3 Win @ Samford. Tanked at Kentucky HARD (THIS TEAM HAD NO BUSINESS BEING RANKED, DESPITE 2 WINS OVER UT)
14. Florida State 4-1 Wins over Jacksonville, Bethune Cookman and 2-1 at Boston College
15. Virginia 3-1 ODU win and 2-1 over UNC
16. Irvine 2-1 201 over UCSB
17. Kentucky 3-0 over Alabama (I bet they move into top-10. D1 knows their conference schedule has been soft so far. They play @ Auburn next week)
18. LSU 1-3 L vs Southern, and 2-1 over visiting Vanderbilt. (Tigers have gone 2-8 in last 10 and likely deserve to fall from top-25)
19. NC State 0-4 L vs ECU and swept at Louisville (Wolfpack series win vs. Duke now looks like a fluke)
20. Coastal Carolina 2-2 Lost @ Wilmington, 2-1 vs. ODU
21. Wake Forest 4-0 W over UNCG, Swept VaTech (Deacons finally showing life but still 7-8 in ACC) Chase survived a trademark bad early innings (1st and 3rd) to get win on Friday. 15 Ks
22. South Carolina 1-3 Losses to GaSouthern and 2 aTm- All at home
23. Miss State 2-2 Lost to Central Arkansas and win ugly series against Georgia at home 2-1
24. Nebraska 2-2 Loss @ Creighton, 2 wins over Ohio State
25. UCF 3-1 Win at Bethune Cookman, 2 over Kansas State

I don't see any changes in top-5
Vanderbilt will take Florida's spot at #6
Florida will likely fall to around #16
Alabama will likely stay ranked as they are really high. But I bet it will be about #20-21
Kentucky will go to around #10.
LSU and South Carolina will fall from Top-25
Mississippi State should - but won't
I don't see an SEC team jumping into the top-25. I think they will go from ten top-25 teams to eight. But likely should be six or seven

I don't envy the D1 staff trying to find 25 teams to rank.
Possible new additions:

West Virginia 19-12 / 7-5
Creighton 24-5 / 2-1 in Big East wins over Nebraska and Butler this week.
Nebraska 2-2 this week- Still strong resume
Oklahoma State 21-11 / 7-5 3-1 against strong competition this week. Won at WVU last weekend
Utah 21-8 / 7-3 Only if they can come back against Northridge tonight

You could see the guys (especially Burke) were upset after the final Friday night out.

Stuff about Tennessee.

NCAA Team Batting stats (Going into today)

#5 in average (.332) #1 in SEC
#11 in OBP (.432) #3 in SEC
#2 in OPS (1.086) #2 in SEC (UGA at 1.088)
#4 in Runs (314) #1 in SEC (UGA has 293)
#11 in Hits (344) #1 in SEC
#2 in Doubles (85) #1 in SEC
#2 in HRS (81) #2 in SEC (UGA had 86) Tennessee now has 87 and UVA has 88)
#4 in RBI (292) #1 in SEC
#45 in Most BBs (165) #9 in SEC
#256 in Fewest Strikeouts (270) #11 in SEC
#236 in Most Stolen Bases (21) #10 in SEC (I cringe whenever we try to steal- The way we're hitting, the baserunners should just stand on bases and taken no chances)
#99 in Fewest Caught Stealing (8) #12 in SEC

Team pitching:

#19 in lowest Team ERA (3.90) #5 in SEC- Some of our fans will be surprised
#36 in fewest hits allowed (226) #6 in SEC
#15 in fewest runs allowed (124) #4 in SEC
#17 in fewest earned runs (111) #4 in SEC
#19 in fewest walks allowed (95) #3 in SEC
#48 in most strike outs (285) #11 in SEC
#1 in fewest HBP (13) Next closest is 17
#25 in lowest BA allowed (.235) #7 in SEC

Complete Games. There's only been 4 complete games in the SEC and Tennessee has 2 of them

These numbers will obviously change but let's be honest.
The pitching numbers are not nearly as bad as we would have expected. We were just spoiled in recent years.
In 2022, our pitching seemed to get tired toward the end of the season
In 2023, the pitching got stronger as the year wore on.
2024, is beginning to look more like 2023 than 2024. However, the Vol pitching in early 2023 was easily worse than early 2024.
