The Official Tennessee Titans thread IV

Chargers are positioned the best as far as players are concerned. I hope that's where Vrabel goes

Not really. They have an atrocious cap situation that is going to cause them to have to dump a lot of those top names to make it work and field a roster. Herbert would be a dream to have as coach, but Chargers Cap and roster are going to have massive overhaul

This talk of stone age offense..we had one of the most prolific offenses in NFL a few years ago.
This isnt a video game and scheme is based on personnel. They missed on finding a replacement for Brown and at same time OL got gutted and now you cannot be even sure what you have at QB. As to relying on D to win games, almost every game is tight regardless of record. In fact, I would say just with better line play, Titans win 4-5 more games and made the playoffs. Winning is razor thin. Being some dominant elite team is winning lottery odds.

This is a very bad decision imo.

Amy Adams Strunk seems like an affable person (in contrast to her dad), but I don't think she operates with a plan. I think she goes day-to-day, season to season, and makes decisions based on what feels "right" in the moment. Keeping Mularkey then firing him after the playoff loss, the timing of the firing of J-Rob and supposedly giving more authority to Vrabel, then firing Vrabel a year later.
It baffles me that she thinks the errors of Jon Robinson's drafting and contracts were just gonna be a 1 year issue.....

This season was a culmination of all those bad draft pick misses, bad contracts, and injuries wrecking the franchise.

That's the problem - I'm not sure she knows what she thinks. There can't be any kind of a long term plan she's following other than "we need to win more games," which isn't a plan at all.

She'll make a decision, the make a decision shortly after that doesn't logically follow the previous one or even completely contradicts it. I think she's doing whatever makes sense to her in the moment, and looking at any given moment in a vacuum/in isolation. She would really benefit from having someone on staff in a President of Football Ops role, but of course that assumes she'd bring that person on and actually listen to them.

Just about to post this…….i do feel better after hearing this…..I still feel like he should have been given another year, but I have zero idea what goes on behind closed doors…..

I’m biased since I’m around him a lot. He’ll be just fine.

This hire should be fun and full of speculations

Whoever hires Vrabel will indeed hit a homerun.

Wherever he ends up, I hope that hes very successful. As a fan, I can't recall the last time that I was actually upset over the firing of a coach. Normally, the writing is on the wall--this wasn't the case with Vrabel. It's a real head scratcher.

Don't get me wrong. I think Vrabel can come across as a dick. But it is very clear he is one of the few coaches in this league that the locker room actively shows they get up for.

Potential candidates?

Bobby Slowik (36yo) Texans OC
Ben Johnson (37yo)
Lions OC
Jim Harbaugh (60yo)
Univ. of Michigan HC

Didn't realize Harbaugh was that old.

Ran Carthon was with the 49ers the same time Slowik was an assistant.

Slowik would be ok…..especially if he brings a few coaches with him from Houston.

Not sure if AAS will go the Houston route again though. Who knows……

I'm not so sure about that. I don't think he's as good of a coach as many thought when the Titans were playing well, but the poor performances the last 2 seasons pretty clearly aren't his fault.

I think he gets as much respect around the league as he does because he isn't just an ex-player, he was a very good ex-player on some famous teams. That's certainly worth something, but I think it leads people to overrate him as a coach.

That's interesting...I absolutely would not have. Vrabel is a coach, and those guys are fired all the time, especially as teams go through rebuilds. Henry is an aging RB. It isn't shocking that those 2 would be gone if a rebuild began. The only really surprising departure of those 4 was AJ Brown.

The writing was on the wall after that Bengals playoff loss that the championship window had closed and a rebuild needed to begin.
