I’m sure some enterprising journalist will do a FOIA request and secure the bids. I‘d be shocked if we weren‘t outbid as the Auburn AD will be skewered after the UK debacle and now a potential scandal regarding bids. The Pete is a nicer facility than LNS—the renovations will quickly change that—-but remember there are 12 other SEC schools with much nicer baseball facilities than UT.
I get that and I know that SMiss has a strong tradition. However, a retiring coach should not come into play. I’d like to know what exactly is a “bid”?

LSU is offering tickets to the general public. There should be a requirement for public access to tickets. Even if it’s only 500. The public deserves the right to have access to these games before they are sold secondhand.

Ok. I did not know what you meant because other teams with similar size stadiums sold out through season ticket holders, donors, etc and did not offer to public either. Well at least I know Wake Forest didn’t. And USM sells out entire stadium in season tickets, except for maybe SRO, and might would not have any left for public after offering to season ticket holders. I don’t know about anywhere else, but LSU stadium is bigger than USM or LNS or Wake Forest, and more seats to offer to public.

I’m not sure how you can offer to public if all the season ticket holders buy them up, and I don’t think this is a problem specific to USM or some conspiracy to keep Vol fans away. If anything it would be to keep tickets out of broker hands and secondary market prices down.

How many? LSU seats over 10,300 so I assume they might have more than the 600 that The Pete or LNS provide for Supers. Friends and family of coaching staff and players families followed by season ticket holders will likely grab all 600 within minutes. Secondary market will likely be only opp for remainder. It’s the problem of only having less than 5K seats for a high demand game.
They didn’t say how many will be available but will go on sale Friday to the general public.

There is a father of a USM baseball player on the committee and a former AD on the committee. Believe whatever you want to believe and I will believe whatever I want to believe. All signs point to an inside job and that makes your program and the NCAA look bad.
I agree that you shouldn’t be allowed to serve on a Committee if you have a child or close relative playing D1 baseball. I know the kid is a seldom used redshirt freshman but it’s really poor optics and shouldn’t ever happen in the first place.

Damn I got tickets for Saturday/Monday college World Series( 1st base above dugout) and I didn’t pay 250 lol and I have a pair to each… I’m skipping supers for sure… for those wondering that’s when our side starts off

Do we know for sure that we will be in bracket 2 when we make it to Omaha? I wasn’t sure if they choose the 4 teams for each bracket after Super Regionals or if they keep the same format of teams that play Saturday-Monday in the Super Regionals are in bracket 2?

IDK and he has become happy with his role, maybe not completely satisfied, but understands his role. I think because they know he can go all three days in a weekend and want him if they get in a bind. He is second now in all time appearances for a career and in a season and bumped himself and some guy named Helton from second to third. So he is second and third in season high appearances. Plus like 6/7 in career era. If he comes back next year and pitches the 30 innings he has had last 2 years he will blow the career appearances out of the water and I don't see anyone touching it. Plus he is second in SEC appearances this year and like 11th in NCAA with no one above him still playing. So that will be his legacy on the field which is not near as important as his legacy off the field. I don't say that to brag but to help understand how he/we deal with it. The appearance thing has made it easier for him to handle the short appearances. One of our guys said the other day that everyone wants to pitch as often as Kirby but no one wants to come into a game in the situations Kirby comes in or be in the bullpen as much as he is. He went 18 straight appearances with at least 2 guys on when he came in.

what a true volunteer he is.

All good and I get the optics…. But you’re talking to a fan base that has always had to overcome SEC money…. We are the stepchild in MS…. Actually feels nice to have a large program like UT think we got favoritism. We are usually on the bad side

That’s fair. What you think about your pitching this season? Typically I keep up with you guys but life got in the way a bit this season. Who’s yer best hitter? Stats don’t always tell the whole story.

This I can agree with. People with any ties to any process should recuse themselves. This is how I run my business. Maybe that did happen and maybe it didn’t…. My athletic department ties don’t run that deep unfortunately.

Accidentally posted below and wrong thread, but see below.

What up Vol nation? Peaceful Eagles fan here just to chat baseball. Quick run down of thoughts and glad to help with info for Hattiesburg.

1. We are a baseball town and have an incredible fan base. Pete Taylor Park is a great college baseball experience. For anyone going you will be treated phenomenally. The right field roost is a great spot. It’s been going for 30 plus years. We allow 30-40 cars to drive in and tailgate in the stadium…. They grill, drink, etc. Go chat with with those long time fans and you will be treated well. Also if in town and out to dinner or bars and wearing Vol gear you will be treated well. Probably get a free beer or meal…. We are very appreciative of fans making the trip.

2. Our fans will be obnoxious and talk a lot of **** to the players…. Which May back fire because that seems to motivate TN baseball. As mentioned above your fans will be treated well though.

3. As a USM fan I hate this draw. This feels like Ole Miss again last year.. I said last year I would rather the team go to Miami than host Ole Miss…. This weekend I said I think going to Clemson would be easier the TN at home or in Knoxville. Hope I’m wrong, but we shall see.

4. Tanner Hall our ace is as good as anyone in the country. Big league change up and pitches.. doesn’t over power, but just an amazing pitcher. Storm out the bullpen is a shut down guy. After that we have solid pitching, but none are just dominating guys.

I think TN fans making the trip will come away impressed and amazed at what “little” Southern Miss has going in baseball atmosphere.

Safe travels to anyone making the trip and all that good stuff

Welcome to the cabal.

Tennessee is ALWAYS on the bad side. They instituted celebration rules because the rest of the country got their feelings hurt we were wearing a fur coat and a pink hat that says “Daddy”. Come on. Now they are instituting field storming rules where we would have to pay the visiting team $500K. Tennessee never gets favoritism from the NCAA or SEC.

Once again, you realize that what you’re demanding didn’t even happen here either of the last two years. You know that, right?

The retiring Coach simply provided motivation for SM to provide a strong bid to host. The minimum bid was $35K and is essentially what the host school will pay to the NCAA for the right to host. For example, SM could have bid $1M even though the generally accepted reasonable bid was $350K. This would be an example of overbidding to ensure you win the right to host. The exposure that SM will get will be huge for their program and the university both in soft and hard revenue.

We lost 6 pitchers to the draft last year I believe and Hurston Waldrep our 2 transferred to Florida and is a first round pick. Hall is as good as they come. Sinker ball, change up pitcher and his MLB scouting report says his change up is already big league ready and better than most of the MLB. Storm out of the pen can shut people down…. Other than those two, we have solid college pitching, but no one stands out or wows you.

Oh well. Glad they will have a short drive home whenever we are headed to Omaha. Hope their coach enjoys retirement like Paul Mainieri after playing us.

We are almost in agreement. I would go one step further and say that said AD should NEVER serve on a committee to begin with if you have this deep rooted conflict of interest. I’m a business guy and recusing oneself from voting doesn’t remove your influence from the rest of the committee during those closed door discussions.

Great perspective. Especially the bolder.

Our fans said the same thing in going to Auburn and Cohen being on the committee, but it is a bid thing in super regional situation like we are in.
NCAA is about the money and we ponied up.
Don’t come here with your passive aggressive BS. Take that to your own board. There wasn’t any way we were getting that bid with the makeup of the selection committee.

I did hear from someone within the program today, their response was we should have won a few more games and it wouldn’t have been an issue…….with that said, they are ready to head south and make a statement
My thinking is that Regional in Clemson put Tennessee's mind frame in a different category, they went from the hunters back to being the hunted I hope I made sense I can't put into words any better lol. I just think they will have that swagger like last year back this weekend

Gotcha. On our end, we had to replace a lot too, pitching was supposed to be our strength, and, over time, it’s kind of worked out that way, just not the way any of us expected. Anyways, mad respect for your coach and program, thanks for the info.

I can be more direct if you like? As a former associate AD of USM and a SEC school I do know a little about the process…. Hope you can make to Hattiesburg and enjoy the hospitality.
