I know what you Delta forkers mean by “tailgate”. You ain’t getting close to my tailgate, freako! We don’t play that shiz up here in the mountains. You making the trip? Be glad to tailgate with you or buy a beer.
I’m sure your response will be “passive aggressive” or “not worth my time because we will win both games by 20”
I agree that the antics of 21 and 22 UT teams brought about the ridiculous “no celebration” rule changes and led to umpires over policing games. See players being ejected in Regionals for bringing “props“ a few feet out of dugouts. One was a necklace and one was a hot dog. Or Clemson’s CF getting ejected for chirping at one of our players.Exactly. If one were to embrace “conspiracy theories” one could envision a scenario where a deal was made to give Auburn the Regional and if a scenario came up allowing USM to host the Super, they got it. All “recusals” aside.
I really don’t believe that but I am also not naive enough to believe USM simply ”outbid” UT. Some combination (or all of these) contributed IMO:
- Scott Berry retirement (chance to go to Omaha or at least, finish at home)
- Stacking the deck against the SEC. 1 team against the overall #1 seed, 4 teams playing one another and the remaining team goes on the road (would have a HUGE advantage playing at home). NCAA can’t have half or more of the CWS teams being from the SEC
- Anti-TN bias. Rules changes aimed specifically at UT, sending us to the #4 National seed when we are arguably the top #2 seed, the way Umps “watch us like hawks“ for any infraction (not to mention squeezing the strike zone and NEVER getting a check swing called as “didn’t go”)
They love to hate us, or hate to love us-- but I do agree that VOLS have been growing the baseball game interest. Last year everyone was talking about our bat slinging, bird popping disrespectful team. Of course, Football has always been popular, but the VOLS/Bama was the most viewed at one point. Our high powered offense is fun to watch.
Even more important @Baseburg2000 are you up to date on prostate exams?Do you guys bunt guys around a lot?

I get that and I know that SMiss has a strong tradition. However, a retiring coach should not come into play. I’d like to know what exactly is a “bid”?
Also as a USM fan if we had to go to Knoxville I wouldn’t have cried “SEC”. The metrics are closer than some realize and I understand the process…. We simply would have been outbid and I would have been ok with that
Not at all. Expected some push back. No one asked for praise, etc. Just an excited fan about the upcoming weekend trying to discuss.I mean you did willingly come into a Tennessee Vol fan message board. Fan is short for fanatic. Did you really expect people on this board to be like “Congratulations on hosting! You all definitely deserved it over Tennessee! We’re not worthy!”
Ha. I’ve got too many tickets—granted they are SRO. . Just showing some southern hospitality to a friendly SM fan who’s come in peace. Besides he’s already said he has SRO tix as well, so nothing to be gained other than treating him with a little respect as he’s demonstrated the same thus far.Have some pride. You don’t need tickets that bad.
All good and I get the optics…. But you’re talking to a fan base that has always had to overcome SEC money…. We are the stepchild in MS…. Actually feels nice to have a large program like UT think we got favoritism. We are usually on the bad side
