Does anyone know if anyone from the 1951 MCWS team is still around and if UT reached out to them to invite them to Omaha?

By the time the team was honored four decades later, Anderson and left-handed pitcher John Huffstetler had died. They were both honored posthumously. There are now no living lettermen from the 1951 team, according to Tennessee athletics historian Bud Ford.

Hopkins said at the time he would have never dreamed the Vols still wouldn't have returned to Omaha 41 years later.

Absolutely not," Hopkins said. "Cy was fired by (athletic director Gen. Robert) Neyland and the program went down hill. It never got the support and went by the wayside."
