The Officiating Thread - UGA

Y’all, I know there was a lot of calls that could’ve gone the other way….bottom line, this team failed to execute on both sides.

Beck had so much time to pick us apart. Gameplan was not good. Jermod, I love you buddy but he was average at best tonight. Our WR’s can’t create separation…offensive line isn’t dominant and Nico didn’t play bad but not scoring in the 2nd half is gonna get you beat.

We had our chances and honestly didn’t play bad. We just didn’t play well enough to win. Kirby has Heupel’s number and until we can hit explosives against Georgia, we won’t beat them.
I ultimately agree with this. I think we were really unlucky and played decent but not great and we had to play great

That whole sequence was weird. 3-7. Presnap penalty 3-2 right with incomplete pass negated. Then change to 2-2 (why?) runner didn’t appear to gain the line but 1-10? Carson Beck then scrambles for 24-17 lead and the rest is history. Trying not to be that guy but that was confusing.

Ever see a tight end catch the ball and take 3 steps and it wasn't a catch. Mike Slive made that call from his easy chair.

Absolute BS

Correctly called a fumble...dude took 3 steps and made a "football move" completely turning his body 180 degrees upfield before we force the fumble....Sankey steps in and says NOPE. UGA ball!!

Fake facemask on what would have been 3rd and 12....instead 1st down UGA and 15 yards.

Holding the entire game on Pearce and JoJo...

No pass interference calls when Brazzell and Squirrel BOTH got raped.

No offensive PI on UGA when their TEs block downfield with the ball in the air....

The refs stole this game.

Heard also sucked ASS again like versus Arkansas and will grade out in PFF like a DEI hire...in the 40s....

McCoy who will be an all American one day had by far his worst game as a VOL today at the worst possible time. Will hirt him trying to make 1st team all SEC and AA this season. He was bad man. Usually is a stud.

Our safeties looked horrible against TEs down the seams...which is the cover 3 beater in everyone's playbook. But we were playing Man defense outside with 2 deep safeties most of the game...
Like a Tampa 2...and still managed to get owned by their TEs...

Worst coverage game all year in the back 5. They really struggled. We should have won this stupid game though

Yeah our offense played decent. Long drives pretty much all game. But when you don’t hit big plays it’s hard to have 15-17 play drives against a team like UGA, especially on the road. I was thinking we needed to score 27-30 to win.

Defense had their worst game of the year and it was a 7 point game in the 4th. I hope this doesn’t turn into Heupel not being able to solve the Kirby puzzle like Franklin at Penn State not being able to beat the Buckeyes.

No he wouldn’t. Heupel doesn’t challenge anything haha. And when is the last time we got that call? You say all the time.

We get illegal participation against the defenses we play all the time. That’s why we snap the ball so fast, to keep them from subbing, sometimes they still try and we get the free 5 yards.

We tried to game the system, that’s why he was moving so slow, and then started sprinting. Our coaches teach the guys to swap really slow in those situations to drain the clock against the offense. He wasn’t being lazy, he was doing what he was taught. And, this time we got bitten. I’ve seen us cause numerous teams to have to take a timeout or get a delay of game because of our slow subs. It’s a tactic, usually it benefits us, in this case it didn’t.

I’m simply saying it’s a reviewable call, same as targeting. One of the only things that the review booth can initiate review for that was not called on the field

I agree but I haven’t seen refs do what they did all year

That series was so baffling. I thought Heupel would have definitely challenged that spot but it was like he wasn't even aware. He looked a full yard short. Then the 2 holds on the Beck run that they picked up... then of course, the fumbles. Wtf

I agree. Part of it too the general lack of belief in all systems in America. People don't trust anyone in authority or enforcement and there's lots of feeling that "everything is crooked" so everything is fixed or rigged.

It really cuts down on the enjoyment of life in general when they feel anything bad that happens to them or "their side" is due to the deck being stacked or ESPN hates us or Vegas wanted it or whatever.

Hell, if that's how you feel ..... stop wasting your time following whatever it is.
As fans, we are consumers. Without consumers, players and officials do not have a job. It’s only a hobby. You have every right to dictate how other people earn your money.

Thought I was losing my mind. 😂

Too many men on the field is a reviewable call from the booth. It’s one of the few pentalties that can actually be reviewed

We were trying to game the system, we do it all the time. Watch how slow our guys leave the field, especially if the play clock is getting low. It has worked in our favor numerous times this season, and caused the other team to get a delay of game or take a time out. It’s a gimmick, and this time it burned us.
Do the players have to get off the field within a certain limit? I didn't think so but an announcer mentioned three seconds, which can't be right.

UGA definitely had the bounces of the ball go their way today. Bottom line is the defense didn't generate enough pressure to do what was needed to win a game like this.

That being said, the officiating was comical. The highly questionable and incredibly important 'face mask' penalty. The play where the UGA tight end caught the ball, took two or three steps and fumbled yet it was ruled incomplete. How was that not even reviewed? If that was UT, you can be 100% sure it would have been called a fumble on the field and probably correctly so.

The officiating didn't cost us the game but I don't have much doubt that if UT got close enough, the flags would have been flying to ensure UGA won.
