Probably around $400. Check around though. Walmart often has package deals where you can get more for less.

Also if you're a beginner I've heard Nikon's have tutorials built into the camera so you can learn as you go.
:hi:
is canon the standard like crazyguy said? do those cameras have any kind of extended warranty?

Yea I think so. That's what I have is a Canon Rebel. The cameras themselves typically have a one year warranty but you can buy an extended warranty through the company you purchase it from.

I was probably a little ambitious if I said that Canon is the standard. I shoot canon, but many other pro photographers shoot Nikon. Volatile shoots Nikon if i'm not mistaken. I would honestly buy used. I bought one of my markII's used and one new. Places like B&H photo and KEH photo have used sections that are trustworthy. The major differences between a prosumer dslr and the more expensive ones are the iso abilities and the sensor. Most dslr bodies under $2500 used a sensor that isn't full 35mm size. That means that if you use a 28mm lens, that you really only get about 35 degrees out of one of these cameras. A full frame lens makes a huge difference. Also, as time goes on-the ISO capabilities of these cameras just continues to improve. I can shoot at 6400 ISO all day long without any noise...and the newer 1DsMKIV's can go up to something like 15000 iso and stay clean, it's really pretty amazing.
The best piece of advice that I could give anyone starting out is to spend money and buy good glass. I believe that the best lenses for the money in the canon family are the 50 1.4 and the 28 1.8. The 50 1.4 is a legendary portrait lens, and the 28 is super versatile. Learn how to shoot in manual mode while adjusting af points, app, and shutter speed-it will make a world of difference.

I would like a camera that's over my head that I could grow into... I would like to learn to make manual adjustment so that I can be creative in shooting....

anyone using a tilt shift? I think it's cheesy for people but some of my friends who are big time architectural photogs use them all the time. Regardless, one way that you can use it is to make things look miniature. This is really cool.

On the shot of the guy on the beach...is that an editing thing? What's it called like Cinema wash or something. What am I trying to say?!

when people do that they call it a cinema wash or a sepia wash, I did it naturally by letting the sun wash over my lens. I'm not saying it's not edited....we color correct everything some, I'm just saying we didn't add that effect. I love the umbrella and people in the background.

Allowing light to wash across the lens of the camera decreases the color pop in the photograph. That's why you see many pro lenses with hoods. The picture of the girl was taken with a zoom and a hood, that's why the colors are so pronounced.

Shoot yesterday with my cousins kids...
