The Runner's thread

I thought it was your heel that hurt? Plantar fasciitis is on the bottom of your foot.

If it is PF, get a golf ball and roll the ball under your foot for 10-15 minutes twice a day. It should go away in a couple of weeks. I had it really bad and this worked for me, and I never have had a recurrence.

The bottom of my feet in the heel area and into the arch. Guess I should have been clearer.
I'll def give the golf ball trick a try. Can you send me that in a pm and add that foot massages and back rubs do wonders in aiding the healing process. Oh yeah, and state that you are a dr. Maybe my wife will buy into it........maybe.

Does anyone know of a good weight training program to do over the winter for running?

My track team did one every year, I just can't remember what exactly we did.

Ran off of a treadmill for the first time in I can't remember how long today. I Forgot how badly hills suck.

Also, I bought a pair of Asics GT-2150's today after my run. Going to try them out tomorrow.

Nope. The most I have ever run in one setting was today :p

It'll be a great accomplishment. If you haven't already picked a race try to do one that has really good support and a lot of spectators. It makes all the difference those last 3 miles.

This half marathon is HUGE. It's a charity event for St. Jude so the course will be packed.

Didn't make it to the gym today, so I went for a run! I ran 2.7 miles in 26min and 12 sec. I just went outside the house and ran around my neighborhood. Felt good, I usually run over a 10min mile so this was a pretty good time for me. Crossfit is during wonders for my stamina!

I'd walk around in them for a week or so before you run in them.

sometimes this can be caused by stride. the extra cushion in many of today's running shoes causes us to strike hard heel first, something that our body isn't designed to do. You'll notice that if you run barefoot you strike more to the center of the foot. If you can find a grassy field somewhere (maybe even a little league baseball field) to run laps in your bare feet, or socks, it make help.

btw, i'm training for a tri, olympic length. I haven't really run much since my surgeries a year ago but things are going pretty well. I got three miles in last night at around an 8:30 pace, a little slow for me but it was humid. I'm actually going to take some swim lessons. I've always been a strong swimmer, but i never learned to use my legs and I'm going to need all the energy that I can find.

That's good. I did a half once on a whim. I was in good enough shape but the last 3 miles was through a park and nobody was there. Mentally I got so bored. Used to think that I'd want to do a marathon but that burned me out. Might do trail half marathon one day.

I think I'm definitely gonna do some sprint tris next year. Maybe an Xterra at the end of the year. I need the weather to turn cold so I can swim. Hate going to the pool when it's nice outside.

I wish I could run/bike at lunch but I sweat like a whore in church. The afternoon would not be pretty.

I'm only running in about 2 to 4 miles in them right now.

I've never took that path, though, with any new shoe I have gotten. My legs are sore for the first few days, but luckily I've never had a problem with getting rid of fatigued legs.

Edit: Although, my ankles did bother me a little more than usual during my run yesterday. Not sure if that's because my ankles always bother me the first few weeks or the shoes.

It's overcast cold and raining. Gotta go knock out 4 miles on treadmill. Thanks for the motivation guys.

Ran 4 miles at a 8:20 pace. On a treadmill, though. Gonna give road running another shot on monday. The mill is getting mundane.
