The Runner's thread

What happened to the VN runners? 3.5 miles in the NC woods at dusk. Umpstead State Park is pretty cool for being sandwiched between I-40 and RDU Arirport.

Well I just bought a pair of NB MR1064's and ran four miles through my neighborhood. I ran in the Autumnfest 8k when I was in Knoxville for Turkey day.

Nicely done. One of these days I'm going to it back to Fun Fest and run the Crazy 8s 8k

Just relax and run your race. take advantage of your aid stations. Drink fluids and use your gels.

I sweat like a pig so now i carry an 8 oz bottle even on 3-4 mile runs. staying hydrated helps a ton. another trick is walk the aid stations and any really steep hills after the first 1/4-1/3 of the race. the aid stations will give you a nice break and no sense beating yourself up on big hills. The time you lose will be made up cause your legs will stay fresher longer.

True. I honestly don't mind if I put up a bad time because it's for St Jude and it gets me out of the house.

I'm going to the dr in the morning. I've put it off long enough. I'm ready to get back into a running routine again.

I saw a guy running on the treadmill that was wearing the 5 finger shoes at the gym the other morning. I started to ask him what he liked/disliked but didn't want to interrupt.

5 fingers are awesome. That's all I run in now. No more knee or shin pain. I run easier and faster.

Just got back from the dr. I have plantar fasciitis, bursitis, and heel spurs i n both feet... He gave me cortisone shots in both feet(which hurt like heck) and gave me some temp orthotics for my shoes. I've got to go back in 2 weeks. Good news is he said that he waas 95% sure no surgery was needed and for me to start back running in 2 or 3 days.:crossfingers:

Was there any adjustment period? I'm a sidewalk runner so I'm on concrete 99% of the time. Would they work for me?

Your calves will hate you for the first 2-3 weeks. My first run was about 15 minutes and increased it by 5 minutes every time. The balls of your feet will hurt also for the first few times till you build up some callouses.

I run mainly trails but they've never bothered me on the road, sidewalk or treadmill. The only surface that is uncomfortable is gravel roads and trails with acorns.

You should read "Born to Run". It's a good story and really interesting about barefoot running.

Someone was wearing those in the Autumnfest and you could hear them a mile off. Were they running flat footed or do the sound that loud?
