The Runner's thread

Alright everyone, I found a deal that I just had to share. If you all are looking for a GPS watch to keep track of your runs(if you are like me and hate running on a treadmill) then check out amazon.com. I went to a few sporting goods stores, ebay, etc and couldn't find one in my price range. Well, amazon.com had a Garmin Forerunner 305 for 135ish dollars with one day shipping. Compared to $300 retail. Now once I get the watch it's time to get my fat arse back on the pavement :)

One of the people I run with has one and it is pretty sweet. She can look at it and tell the pace we are running and how far we have been.

I use a Polar footpod/HR monitor/watch. Does the GPS offer much more of an advantage?

Accuracy/Precision is the main thing, I would think. A lot of the reviews I read say the GPS is very precise as to the distance, only being off by about 10-20 feet if any on the distance measured. This tracks minutes/mile, HR, elevation, distance, etc. I got a heck of a deal on it, otherwise, I wouldn't have bought it just because of the price. I've been looking into getting one since last year.

I had no idea we had threads like this. After a whole year. Wow. But anyway I ran 6 miles this morning at my former high school's track. I'm training for a half-marathon in April. I got a long way to go. But anyway I'd be really interesting in hearing what you all think about running shoes. My current pair is in real bad shape and I need a new pair. Any ideas on some good new running shoes?

It's a brand. Very comfortable running shoe. If I'm not mistaken, I think all they make is running shoes.

I run regularly anywhere between 2-6 miles 3 days a week. My internet connection is quite slow and it would take eons for me to peruse through all of this thread, but I'm considering getting a pair of the five finger shoes to run in. Does anyone else have any experience in them?

I've ran in just about everything in the past. Brooks were solid in the middle part of the last decade, New Balance is always hit or miss, I love some Sauconys as well as Asics and right now I'm running in a pair of Nike Frees. Honestly, I love these shoes, but they are getting up there in mileage, so I'm tempted to buy another pair of them and the FiveFingers. Just looking for some reviews if anybody has any.

I've run in them almost exclusively for about a year now and love them. It eliminated my shin splints and knee pain. If you decided to get them, break them in slowly. My first run was 10-15 minutes and then I increased it by 5 minutes every week. Your calves will hate you for the first couple of months.

I got a pair and love them. They made me a better distance runner since I had issues with over-striding. It never bothered me till I started doing some 8 mile runs.

which ones did you get? I got impatient and ordered the KSOs. thanks for the tips. I overstride as well and I'm hopeful they really well strengthen my ankles and calves.

I have been looking at some Broooks on line. I would rather try them on before I buy them. The closest store that carries them is almost an hr away. Just haven't made the time to drive out there. Did you order your NB on line?
Which Brooks? Beast? It's stiff, but solid.

I got the sprint ones. I also use them for floating and rafting the river. They make a great water shoe as well.

Yeah, I'm looking for something that will provide the most comfort. I'm not looking for something to set a blazing time with. Would you recommend them?
