The Runner's thread

I don't know about back pain. But I've known people who have used them and said they felt faster.

Any good ways to start running again? I am playing lacrosse next spring and I need to be getting in shape as practice starts in about a month.

I finished my football season about a month ago and I had shin splints really bad so I've not really been doing much to let the shin splints die down.

So I need to get in shape but not start up too fast. Any ideas? I've heard of the couch to 5k and might do that even though I see that as a plan for heavier people and I'm only about 150

Just did 2.7 miles at lunch and topped it off with 30 minutes on the exercise bike. Need to get back into the rhythm.

Saturday night - one of the most amazing runs ever. Ran up a mountain to a rock outcropping overlooking a cove. Watched the last bit of sun disappear over the ridges. Ran back down in the dark. The woods were completely still and quiet with the light from my lamp reflecting off of the fresh powder. Then halfway down it started to flurry. Freakin awesome. Zen like 5.5 miles.

Ill be running my first marathon this Sept. My goal is to run under 4 hours. Currently running about 10 miles a week and working out on the TRX. Mostly using this time to build up my legs. Ill really start my training around 16 weeks out with about 20-40 miles a weeks. Ill be using the Less is More Training FIRST training program. Ill keep you posted my training.

I decided to run a half-marathon this year, so I started training a couple of weeks ago. I haven't done much research, but I'm running three days a week (while still lifting on the other days) and doing a medium run, a fast "pace" run, and one long run. I went 5.5 miles yesterday in a tick below 44 minutes. Would love to keep that 8 minute pace for the distance. Does that sound like a reasonable plan?

I haven't ran since basketball season started. I'd say I'm in solid shape, but not as good as when I was running.

It's good to have the goal but don't make it your focus for your first one. Worrying about time can hurt you mentally and cause you to go to hard. Just try to finish strong. This race will give you a baseline for your next race.

Nice. I think I'm going to do my first marathon in June.

Another 3.5 miles in the NC woods. Perfect 60 degree day.

I think everyone gave up running. 7.75 miles in the woods just outside Charlottesville, VA. 20 degrees. Froze my nutz off.

I'm inside on the elliptical and treadmill during the winter months, aside from the half I ran. Once spring hits, I'll be back outside.

Nevermind, It's too d... cold to go running.

Nuts are fine, my hands are freezing up and my pace is slowing down.

Decent running gloves windshirt and silk sleeping drawers work for me. Ran at 10 deg this weekend and came back with condensated sweat frozen outside my stocking cap, but was OK running.

I prefer running in colder weather. Can get too dang hot here. Today should be optimal here.

Yeah, I've been trying to run in a pullover and shorts. I am getting too old to keep up with your Army brothers when it comes to acting like weather doesn't affect me.

I run in shorts down to about 20, but I do like the cold. In college, we all just ran around there in shorts and a sweatshirt. If it got cold enough, we threw on a windbreaker type top.

I'm not trying to sound tough, because I don't like the extreme cold. I did feel like I needed to find a way to run in the cold, so I just started trying out some gear. The layering running gloves are plenty, the windshirt makes just a running shirt under work, and the silk tights are perfect for the few days I'd actually be willing to use them. Now, I no longer have the excuse, which I don't need. As I get older and my ankles worse, excuses are much easier to come by.

I will probably head over and see if the Army guys have any gloves? I am too cheap to go buy anything.

Just got back from a quick (or slow) four mile run during lunch. Need to get my miles back up and burn this gut off.
