Good stuff...yes. Jeff or Jimmie win... No. Sorry Nerd but never been a fan of either.
Nice job Nerd & Smokey. I envy those sub 8 paces.
Been able to get back into it a bit now that the snow is gone and weather is better. Gotten about 25 miles or so in the past ten days I think, not timed myself much yet till I feel like I'm back in the full shape I was.
One thing I'm looking at is doing another 5k next month at the end of April. My sister volunteers at Children's hospital and they are doing a run sponsored by Color Me Rad. I've looked stuff up on the internet and heard both good and bad things, but I figured I'd see what you guys know about those kinds of races? I'm thinking after the Komen race I did last october nothing could be that disorganized again, though it was still a good experience (other than 29 degree weather)
Here's my experience with Color Me Rad:
We were scheduled to run the 10am wave in Knoxville. The night before, we got an email that said that they needed to end everything earlier, so the last wave would go out at 9:20 or so (I don't remember the exact times). So we showed up a little earlier, in time to get there about 9.
The route was a loop, and people were told to park in the civic coliseum parking garage. At some point, the route was changed without notification to be a loop that enclosed the coliseum, so you couldn't park there. So we were driving around trying to find parking downtown, and at this point, we were told by a traffic cop that he was being told on the radio that the last wave was actually going to leave out earlier, like 8:45 or 9:00.
We finally got parked, and we got down to the stage. They announced that they were ending traffic control, and that we could continue to run, but we would have no protection from traffic. Well we ran the last wave, and they did keep traffic control out there until we were done (but we were running, and 95% of the people at this point were walking).
The race was untimed, and we didn't track it, but I'm almost certain that the route they sent us on was more like a 3.5k than a 5k.
Never again.
Have fun! :good!:
