The Runner's thread

I am worried that I didn't get up to 3 miles before the race. I started training a couple of weeks ago. This was a last minute decision.

if you got 2.75 today, getting that extra .4 miles will be easy with the excitement and rush of the race.

Good advice. Really embarrassing that I ran a half marathon about 1 1/2 years ago and now am struggling to run 3 miles lol

It will happen. But you get to experience the joys of watching time be shaved off your times. That is really satisfying.

Speed training and core exercises really helped my distance and time. I haven't done much speed training or core exercises and it has hurt my speed a lot. I really need to get back into that.

I'm thinking of incorporating maybe 1-2 days of core training per week from P90x

Country Music Half marathon is in 9 1/2 weeks. Think I can get ready for it? Found a 9 week training plan

I feel like that is a lot of training in that time period. I could be wrong. If there is a plan out there that means it's worked before.

It makes sense, but if you have even a minor setback, it could screw you. I mean, worst case scenario you have to walk a mile somewhere in the middle and get a horrible time. As long as you finish. I've never done a half, so that would be acceptable to me lol. I would like to do 1 full at some point in my life and then I'll call it good and go back to being a slacker.

It doesn't look as bad as I thought it would be. Basically it has you running most your distance on Sunday.

I went back to look at the one I used when I trained for mine. (here's the link Half marathon training) I thought it was a 12 week program but it was only a ten week. So I don't think cutting out a week is too much.
Thanks. I've been running the last couple of weeks for this 5k, so I will be over 10 weeks

Ran hard today. Took a more difficult route with a lot longer hills. Amazing weather, just shirts no shirt. Did the 5k at 7:50 pace. Very happy with that.

I will do that route again tomorrow and then do speed drills at the YMCA on Friday.
