Water bottles for the half...anyone have any suggestions?

I use Nathan hydration bottle. 20 oz. bottle will last me 8-10 miles depending on the heat and how much beer I drank the night before. That should be all you need since you can refill and supplement at the aid stations.

Ultimate Direction 10 oz. bottle would work but you might be refilling it more than you want to.

Cool.

Corral 31, BTW.

4 miles yesterday in just under 35 minutes.

I am with you Aavoxx and VOLatile on the allergy front. Man it slows me down and I pay for running after I am done. It made me feel terrible today.

I started my Clartin regiment.

My miles are good but my new job is keeping me from running when I am at my best. I think I just need to push the tempo and go outside of my comfort zone and work on conditioning more.

I'm almost up to 3 miles.

I've been running the entire Midtown loop around Vandy's campus, which is 2.8ish miles. The run up West End/Blakemore is brutal. It's a long, tedious hill that turns into a really steep hill. But by the time you get to the top, it's mostly downhill and flat, with one final major hill on the loop back onto West End.

Best part about the run is getting the stink eye from Vandy students/employees who see my UT hat.

Ok guys I need some input here. I am drinking water a lot and like I already said I'm a thin guy. I just want to run to get my stamina up. I understand I'll have to have calorie intake.

I haven't ran even a mile in years and man it's hard on me even though I'm a small guy. I get a little under halfway through and I can already feel light headed, heart racing, fatigued. I stay hydrated and don't smoke. I'm 20 years old.

I have been to the doctors and had physical complete with a full blood work up, EKG on my heart an all the good stuff and they told me I'm perfect. Can it just really be that I'm that out of shape? I always see people say if light headedness is experienced during exercise to see a doc, but I've already done that.

Anyone have any idea? Think it'll improve or should I be worried?

You are just that out of shape.

When I was terribly out of shape, not only would I be hopelessly out of breath at the one mile mark (and sometimes quite a bit before), but I would start getting pain throughout my entire body. Even my teeth would hurt.

It's just your body's way of screaming at you to stop. Ignore it.

Keep running. You can be running three miles comfortably within a few months if you stay on a regular schedule.

The only thing holding me back now is my legs, but they'll catch up. I'm telling you, the best feeling ever is to finish your runs and not be gasping for air.

Nice post. It really does get better. I remember when I first started running; I couldn't make 1/2 mile before having to walk. You just have to keep at it, keep building stamina. It feels so great to improve -1 mile without a walk break, then 2, then 5. Never get frustrated, just keep on running. However, never forget hydration - especially in summer. Critical.

I'm going to do a 5k before work on Saturday, work 3 hours, then go to a hash run after work. My Saturday will be interesting.

4 Miles yesterday. Still felt that 5 mile run from Sunday even though I took a day off. 3 miles is comfortable now. 4 is still so-so. 5 is a work-out.

I started my Clartin regiment.

I have been alternating Zyrtek and Zyrtek D for almost 2 weeks and I can't kick it. It is really getting to me because I can't run as often as I would like and when I do I feel so bad the next day or 2. I guess that is from all the pollen I am taking in when I am running.

It can't keep me down forever though.

So I have wanted to get into running for exercise. I am starting slow, 3 laps walking, a small lap jogging, 3 laps walking, etc.
I run on a paved track, but my knees still hurt. I bought what I though are good shoes, so I'm wondering does everyone's knees hurt in the beginning or is this my body telling me I'm too damn old for this crap?

Never too old. I would recommend going to a running store, like Fleet Feet, and have them fit you for some shoes to make sure you have the right fit. Also you are probably going to have some pain for a little while. Try icing 20 mins before and 20 mins after and that may help.

Thank you. I tried the icing today. We'll see how I feel tomorrow.
I really like running so far, I just want to make sure the pain is normal and it will get better.

90% of all runners get hurt at some point in any given year. It may be just for a week or a few days, but we all get hurt.

Feels like I broke my foot last night. Top of foot and toes hurt a lot most of the day. I had piss poor form last night and shin splints set in early.

No idea how far I ran, but I set a pretty good pace the last .75mi or so. Guessing 5 miles.
