The Runner's thread

Nice work.

I did 4 miles yesterday...and...it wasn't at that pace. Lol. Maybe like 9 and some change. Taking a break today. But overall my time is improving and the run is getting slightly easier each time.

Thanks.

I eased into the run and back was feeling good so I started to push myself a little bit at a time to make sure my back wasn't going to start hurting and make me stop short of the 4 miles.

All that matters is you are out there running. It doesn't matter how long it takes you to do it. But if you want to improve your pace there are ways to do it.

Well right now I am doing more of a tempo run but I should probably insert some sprinting in there to help with my time.

Awesome! This will be the 3rd time in the last 4 yrs for me running Nashville. Like that the starting line has been moved close to the stadium.

I will be participating in November. What is the route like in your opinion? Too many hills?

Intervals are a really good way to help you improve pace. That way you get your distances in but you are also able to work on your pace. You also have to find out what works for you because different things work for different people.

Ok guys I need some input here. I am drinking water a lot and like I already said I'm a thin guy. I just want to run to get my stamina up. I understand I'll have to have calorie intake.

I haven't ran even a mile in years and man it's hard on me even though I'm a small guy. I get a little under halfway through and I can already feel light headed, heart racing, fatigued. I stay hydrated and don't smoke. I'm 20 years old.

I have been to the doctors and had physical complete with a full blood work up, EKG on my heart an all the good stuff and they told me I'm perfect. Can it just really be that I'm that out of shape? I always see people say if light headedness is experienced during exercise to see a doc, but I've already done that.

Anyone have any idea? Think it'll improve or should I be worried?

The elevation. Urg.

Other than the first big hill, I don't mind the overall course. Knoxville's half is much hillier.

There are a few ones, one long one in the first few miles. Not too bad after that, especially if you are used to running in Knoxville. If you typically run the Sequoyah Blvd trail or around campus, then you will be fine.

That's why we picked the half in Nashville. :)

Went and watched a 5k this morning. My friend finished 5th in 15:10, the winner finished in 14:49. I would have done it, but I needed to be at work by 10AM and that means I would have had to run a sub-25:00 5k and then ride my bike 10 miles home... lol.

4 miles tonight. 7:56 pace. Felt good all the way through. I feel like I am starting to get back to normal from my back being hurt.

**** allergies. That is all.

Yes. Exactly.

I ran 3.7mi of trail today. It was slow. Legs are dead from riding yesterday. Had some shin splints after a few steep climbs. I shouldn't have a problem finishing the 10k trail run there in a month.

Running a half in April was genius...
