The Runner's thread

I am of the opinion of WGAF on that one. I mean, who cares what these people do if it doesn't affect you? Sure, I don't agree with it, but the comments on that article are ridiculous. People trying to find out personal info and publicly shame those kids. WTF? Seriously? The Internet is scary.

This. There are much more villainous people out there.

If you know the route you could easily (well maybe not easily) run the route by yourself on any given day. These runners didn't hurt anyone but it's still a pretty shady thing to do to those that paid and got selected.

This is my thought on it too. There are plenty of worse things out there to do but if you paid to run in this race you would probably be upset if you didn't get the medal or whatever after finishing it.

I'm sure they had enough medals for all the finishers.

I thought I read in the article that the girl didn't get a medal. I went back and re-read it and it doesn't say that anywhere. So other than these guys running the marathon for free I am not sure what the big deal is. Knee jerk reaction on my part.

Ran my first 5k this morning. 30:27. Shin splints struck early otherwise I would have easily been well under 30:00. I had to walk them off 3 times. Last mile was pretty quick for me.

The problem with bandits is race directors go through a lot of time and expense staging a race. Making sure there are enough volunteers, food, insurance, parking etc. Bandits take away from resources that the director has spent money on.

Bandits are no different than someone walking into Golden Corral and saying "you've got all this food laid out its no big deal if I take a plate."

Another problem is that in some races they have caps because of permitting. They may only be allowed a specific number of runners and if they go over they can get fined or lose their permit and the opportunity to use that race course in the future.

4 miles today at 7:38 pace. Felt strong through the whole run. That puts me at 200 miles for the year and ahead of schedule. Just hope I can stay heathy to nail this goal.

Hey you finished it and that's all that matters. Plus it gives you a time to shoot for the next race.

So I just don't think my knees are going to be able to take it. I've never has issues with them before and I am not overweight so I can't understand the issue. I guess I'll go see a dr. about it.
It makes me sad because I really enjoy it.

Did the Color Me Rad 5k yesterday in Knox. Hadn't been working out consistently due to new job/school/moving into my new apartment, so naturally thought I'd be terribly in shape and do bad. I finished nearly two minutes faster than my last 5k and in the top 20 for the whole race of about 1400. It was honestly one of the more fun races I did, especially since the after party was basically a rave without ecstasy. I'll do it again next year just for the fun of it, and the fact that 80% of the runners were 18-24 year old girls.

Only reason to run this race.
