The Runner's thread

Need some more input guys. This time just wondering how I did. I completed my first full mile in years just now. I walked a little over a mile and then turned around and came back and ran the way back. The way back was the only part I timed. Two or three long steep hills. I did it in 12 mins. Is that good for a first run with hills? Honestly my stamina is definitely lacking, but not what I felt like what was holding me back. I think I can get that improved quickly, because my breath immediately came back to me after slowing down.

My problem was my legs. I felt like I could've stopped fast walking and ran again if my legs would've let me. They got so tight I had to slow to a walk and they actually were hurting and it eased as I walked but my muscles got so tight down around my shins and calves that it held me back.

If you haven't ran in years and you mix in some hills, 12 minutes isn't bad at all for your effort. You were 12 minutes faster than the dude sitting on his couch.

My advice is to pick a program and ease back into it. Rushing can disappoint you and leads to injury.

My 3 mile run is getting really easy.

Gonna push it to 3.5 for a few weeks, and then hopefully tackle 4 miles by June.

Looking for some advice to start running. I'm in pretty good shape already, workout almost everyday except for weekends, and do a warmup run of about 5 minutes or so before I start my workout. I would like to run a half marathon at some point, my city has a 5k on the 4th of July that I'm going to run in. And I will try to do a mud run over the summer as well.

I have looked up some of them. Didn't know if anyone had tried some of the stuff out there that worked for them.

I used marathonrookie.com's program for my half marathon and it worked for me. I had a pretty decent running base before I started using it. And by that I mean I could run 3 miles non stop at a decent pace.

Drenched. Might have to start running shirtless. Good thing I'm in the woods cause nobody wants to see that.
