The Runner's thread

Four miles yesterday along the river. It was hot even with the wind coming off the river. This run puts me over 250 for the year.

Open challenge to all. I will be doing this and I think it's a great idea. One of the best ways to improve your run is to have a strong core. Here's a good start to that:

3 miles today, was really tired and hurting at the end of it. Hope it was just an off day. I'm ready to try 3.5.

Signed up for my first 5K today on July 4th. I'm about half way through Couch To 5K, so this one will be a trial run. We'll see what happens

Ran a mile the past 3 days. I want to get into running everyday to cut down some weight. Any tips?

First thing I would recommend is to get fitted for the right shoe for your feet and your body type. Try to find a Fleet Feet or a running speific store. They will be able to get you in the right shoe. It will make all the difference for you. Next thing would be to pick a program like a couch to 5k program or something. Set a goal that you want to reach. Something like running a 5k race. Something to keep you motivated. Good luck and keep us updated.

This. I did the first three weeks of C25K in old shoes, went and was fitted this past weekend, and my legs feel a lot better this week. I'm down 4 lbs already, and went 2.5 miles this morning at 12:32 pace (this includes the warm up/ cool down periods). Improvement from the 13:14 pace I started at.

It's crazy what a new pair of shoes that are correct for your feet will do for your legs.

Happy National Run Day! At 4:00 it was 95 degrees. No biggie, I figured it would cool down come evening time. It did. By 7:00 it was a so much more manageable 92 degrees for a three mile run!

Do you guys have any advice for shin pain/splints after runs?

It seems like I hurt myself after every couple 3 mile runs and have to take a week off just to heal.
