The Runner's thread

What's even crazier is he had scheduled a 100 mile run without any support. He was going to use a camel back and gas stations to help him get through the run. Said he was planning on eating plenty of Hostess cupcakes and twinkies.

I watched a little bit of that video you posted. I am at work so I couldn't watch it all but is the Barkely that extreme?

It's almost entirely off trail. Every year he picks a new course and the racers have to use map and compass to navigate. The total elevation gain is around 36000 feet which is remarkable given its just south west of Knoxville. The racers only know the day it will start never the time. So they can't plan their nutrition. There are no aid stations or crews to help. It's completely self supported except when you reach the start finish line at the end of each loop. The entire race is designed to break you. Almost no one expects to finish they race solely to see how far they can go before giving up.

I would probably die out there.

Four miles in a pretty decent rain which made me push my pace. 30:06. Would have been sub 30 mins but dropped my key to my car close to the end of the run so I had to stop and pick it up.

3.0 last night. Very slow pace, even walked a bit. Legs were cooked after spending 9 hours on the bike the previous 3 days.

2.5 mile run yesterday puts me at 300 miles for the year. That puts me 4 days and 50 miles ahead of schedule. I think it's time to take a little break.

Has running helped your biking at all?

I has a little. My speed has dropped, but endurance is noticeably better. Speed down because I haven't spent any time this year doing intervals.

4.1 tonight. Humid. Wasn't breaking any records, just had to run off the excess of last night. Took me 10 hours and 2 naps to even get the energy to do something.

Running the Firecracker 5k on Friday. It's a flat, fast course. Aiming for 29:00. Was going to do the 10k, but that course is just ridiculous.

Also, my foot problem has practically gone away since switching back to my old shoes. Guess I'm going shoe shopping for new Asics.

Finally back to running on a consistent basis. Its been a long 2.5yrs. Ran a total 31.55 miles in June(11 runs)

Ran 4.02 miles at an 8:34 pace this morning.

Realize it's not just Asics. It's a specific model Asics most likely. And then, Asics have changed a lot of the setups on their models so check that too.

Typically, each manufacturer makes models for all foot types. Just do some research all around is what I'm trying to get at.
