The Runner's thread

5.5 miles this morning in a dress and makeup carrying a pirate flag. 9:25 pace. Went out fast at 8:10 and slowed down a lot over the bridge.

New Brooks Ghost 7 shoes showed up today. They look sweet. Probably try to start breaking them in in the morning.

Ran about 3 miles tonight. Didn't feel too great. Got a trail race next Saturday... 20 mile or 50k options, I'm not entirely sure which I want to attempt yet.

Based on your recent posted runs, I'd say neither. 20 miles on a trail is long. Time wise it can be close to a marathon depending on the terrain. Running an ultra if you haven't seriously trained for 3-4 months is crazy.

First night run of the fall. Beautiful moon and crisp cool air. Helped take away the sting of the afternoon

went piggy last night at Hooters all you can wings. Wanted to run it off this morning. Got up to run right after the eclipse (which wasn't really that red here), only to find my stomach not agreeing with me. After it settled down, I finally ran 4.27 miles in a very slow, very grueling 38:20. I even stopped for a break crossing the four lane highway. I totally skipped the first time it allowed me to cross.

Obviously last night was a big factor, but I also think the fact that once I did run it had been well over 14 hours since I had any food, so that leads to this question. How do you all fuel morning runs? Or any runs for that matter?

I normally keep my morning runs short. I don't like eating breakfast, so I save my longer runs for the afternoon/evening. On race weekends I'll eat something good the night before, then keep fueled during the race with bananas and GU.

Less than hour - banana or kind bar
Over hour - oatmeal if I have time or bagel and banana if rushed

I used to eat several bananas leading up to a MTB race, but found they would start to come back up. However, my effort was much more intense during those races.

Since my job has changed and I am off most Saturdays now I have been getting up Saturday morning and running. On my Saturday runs I have been drinking acclerade before my run. Seems to have been working for me.

The afternoon runs I try to eat bananas about an hour before and then accerlade thirty mins before.
