The Runner's thread

That is still a solid pace. Nice job

Thanks. I am super sore and have several blisters, too. My hips gave me crap from the 16 mile point and on. I'm completely hooked on trail running, though. This one was exceptionally flat, so there were super fast times. The 50k winner did it in 3:21, which is like a 6:48 pace. My friend finished second in the women's 50k and actually at the exact same time I did.

That is an exceptionally fast time. I keep forgetting the hills there are smaller.

There were literally no hills in this race. It was in a park in the middle of the city that has about 10 miles of singletrack. We went directly up to WI after the race to crew for another friend's first 50k. The terrain was pretty tough.

The girl I went with wants to do the Barkley Marathons.

3.2 miles on a treadmill in 24:23. I'm out of town for work and it was the only option. It just reminded me how much I hate running on a treadmill.

Signed up for my 1st 1/2 Marathon this week. Excited to prepare and see how it goes.

Tear it up!!!!! Which one? When is the half?

Can the runners here on Volnation help in anyway?

if you want to ad me as a friend on the nike + you can ad me. Paul Oakley

It is the Myrtle Beach 1/2. It isn't until Feb 14th.

I am sure I will be around asking for advise as I am preparing for it.

Four miles this morning at 7:56 pace. This four miles puts me over 500 miles for the year. My goal was 500. I'm glad I was able
To achieve this goal with time still left in the year. It's been a long ten months. I going to continue to push myself through the rest of the year and see how far I can get and then set a goal for next year.

That's awesome. Congrats on reaching such a lofty goal!

9.4 miles today through the trails of First Landing State Park. The views were unbelievable! Will definitely be going back. And not just because I paid the $40 annual parking fee!

They're letting 6 people run the Athens Marathon in Greece. Of course it's all officers. I hate the Army at times.

Has anyone here run an ultra before?

The 20 mile I just did was easier than I thought it would be so I've signed up for a super laid back local 50k in a few weeks at one of my favorite parks. A bunch of my friends are doing the 50k or 50 miles. It's 10k loops with fully stocked aid stations at each 5k point. I figure I go and give it the ol' college try. If I don't complete 50k, no biggie. There's a lot more elevation than my 20, so there'll be a lot of walking up/down stairs. I can also take almost 12 hours to complete it if I want, but I'd be shooting for 5.5-6 hours.

I am exhausted just reading that. Good luck, though!

If you break it down mentally of just 5 loops and there isn't much elevation it should be doable. Averaging 12 min/miles for your first ultra might be a bit tough though. Tough to say because the amount of elevation will pay a big role in that

Yeah, to put a time on it is difficult and I will not hold myself to it at all. The second half will be difficult, because as I come through the aid station the potluck food will be set out and, apparently, that's about the point that people quit and just go eat instead of continuing.
