The Runner's thread

Yeah, to put a time on it is difficult and I will not hold myself to it at all. The second half will be difficult, because as I come through the aid station the potluck food will be set out and, apparently, that's about the point that people quit and just go eat instead of continuing.

Lol that would be me. Screw running let's go eat.

I recently did the Bourbon Chase in Kentucky which is a relay race over roughly 24 hours that covers over 200 miles. I was the first runner in my group so I ran at 8am, 8pm (Dark, cold, and raining), and 5am (Dark, cold, and raining). All together my runs came out at roughly 17 miles. I also learned that all land in Kentucky is either uphill or downhill, there is no flat land.

How was it running with a team? I've heard the fun is between your segments, riding around and hanging out.

I plan to do Relay Iowa next year. It's the same format, 339 miles across Iowa over 2 days. My friends put together 3 teams this year and there was a lot of alcohol consumed between legs...

Especially in the Bourbon Chase as it is a relay that goes through all the Distilleries in Kentucky. Have to be 21 or older to do it. Running that many times over such a small period of time with little to no sleep is murder though.

I really recommend you getting a team together for the Bourbon Chase next year, they use a lottery selection so you aren't guaranteed a spot but it was awesome. The distilleries are cool, the scenery is beautiful, and the never ending hills are hell.

The Tennessee Ragnar Relay started yesterday and they were running by the lake house in Winchester last night so I gave them a holler

Some of the members of the Relay Iowa teams have done the Bourbon Chase and some Ragnar Relays, as well as relays that go through the Rockies and others.

my cousin, her husband and another cousin's wife did the Ragnar Relay from Chattanooga to Nashville. I'm very jealous.

2 miles in 14:34 for my pt test

Go ahead and tell Yank. But I'm trying for a PR in my upcoming half and I haven't been doing speed drills much. Just trying to run consistent 8 flats.

So my Nike+ watch has bit the dust already. I'm thinking about getting the Garmin Forerunner 220.

It wasn't the 220, but I had one of the Forerunners for about two weeks. Total garbage. The GPS would drop out and miss half my runs. The pace counter was cool, but I didn't like the setup or the crappy GPS. I bought another Nike+ watch and couldn't be happier. I considered the Fuelband, but went with what I knew worked.

The new ones(620 and 220) have all had great reviews.

This is my second Nike+ watch. It actually broke not long after buying in but I just superglued it. I could do it again but its almost not worth the hassle

I only bought the 15, so the 220 is a slight upgrade (although their numbering system is weird). Maybe you'll have better luck. I wouldn't trade in my Nike+ for anything now. My first one lasted three years with no issues. I think it only broke because I got it too wet, not because of anything faulty.

The part that you plug into the computer where the band meets the watch itself has separated/broke. Same thing happened on my first one. It still works but I don't think it'll last much longer. My first one lasted way longer before the same spot was a problem.

Found it new on eBay for $210 with the heart rate strap($299), not that I'll use it more than likely. Pulled the trigger. I have 2 weeks to return it.

Bought the Mizuno Sayanora 2s today. The Garmin GPS watch I bought was garbage, it kept freezing and losing the GPS signal during runs so I returned it and came home with the new shoes and $53. First test tomorrow

Get the Nike+ watch.

you don't pay attention to me at all. I bet you made a fantastic Drill Sergeant! That's what I had. We've had this discussion like 8 times :). I'm going back to it. I had cracked the screen, not bad, just one solid crack through the center. It's still usable and still easily readable, I just thought I'd upgrade. Will probably wind up getting a new one of those eventually.

I've had a few tonight.

Just leaving this here.

5.5 miles yesterday afternoon in the amazing sunshine. My goal was to run each mile faster than the one before: 8:36, 8:24, 8:22, 8:01, 7:45. Felt great!
