The Runner's thread

I will probably take a little more time off and then get fitted for some new shoes and see how it goes from there.
As part of my stretching I try to work that ankle really good and it is getting better but I should probably add more ankle exercise to what I am doing.

Thanks for all the help VFB.

anytime. I'm not an expert by any stretch, but I read up a lot to stay safe. I've really been researching a lot to make sure I don't do anything stupid trying to get in my 1000 miles this year.

You can Google stretching and find any answer you want. I tend to believe in dynamic stretching before a run. Here's what I've started doing with some added ankle rotations and arm rotations:

Stretching for Runners | Runner's World

it's the video on the right "Dynamic Warmup". I'll also throw in some lower body Russian Twists to loosen up my hips sometimes.

My question since it's going to be freezing cold for a week. Is there a way to update the Nike+ stuff if I only use my Nike GPS watch for runs? I might have to wimp out and hit the treadmill for some miles and I want to be able to prove all 1,000 of my miles for the year.

Everytime you plug it into your computer it updates. It doesn't work on a treadmill(unless maybe with the shoe pod). I've tried using my phone but it's very inaccurate and not worth trying to hold while running on the treadmill.

I've ran on the treadmill 3 times this week. I could care less about "proving" I ran though.

I am currently running in Brooks Ghost 6 with 210 miles on them. I have normal arches so the show should be fine, but I haven't had a true "fitting" done.

I had a severe ankle sprain playing basketball about 1-1/2 years ago (this is why I switched to running) and still have not gained complete ROM in that ankle and I wonder if that could be part of the problem as I ramp up my weekly mileage.

I try to always stretch post run but hadn't done any pre-run because I had heard stretching before the workout can cause muscle imbalances which could lead to injury. I always try to take my first mile at an easy pace and ramp up after that.

SDV - What kind of insoles do you use? That may be something that I could look into.

Thank you all for your input. I appreciate the help.
I don't know the name. I went to a running shoe store called Road Runner. I did a run on a treadmill and the videoed how I landed then put my foot in this warm fitting thing that molded to my feet

Road Runner is a great website. Can only imagine how epic their stores would be.

Also, fwiw, I've learned that not all Fleet Feets are created equal. They are a go to name in this thread and I used to agree, but the one here in Virginia Beach is awful and the one in Kingsport, TN isn't that much. Of course, there are VERY few options northeast of Knoxville in TN.

Yeah they are pretty sweet and have great prices. I think you can buy a shoe and wear it for 90 days and return it in any condition and they'll take it back no questions asked

2 miles in 17:15

TYD: 23.31
Remaining: 726.69

I don't see the 2 mile thing lasting. A mile a day should be doable though.

I have the Danish DANCON march(25K) on the 18th. I'll likely keep it at a mile a day for a few days before. There is a 5K the day after that I'm going to try and "run."

I'm counting any miles that are accumulated in a exercise/jog attempt. The other day when I got sick to my stomach running, there was a stretch where I clearly wasn't running. I was still making the effort and therefore counted all the miles.

5.15 today at lunch before it got too cold. Volatile, no way could I handle those temps.

Weekly total: 5.15
Yearly total: 18.18
2015 debt: 981.82

Don't freeze to death

I survived. I actually got hot around mile 3. Under Armour is amazing. 10k in 1:01. Had to stop and tie my shoe or I might have been able to get under an hour.Happy with it since its my first race in over a year.

Today - 6 miles
Year - 8 miles

Rain, extreme cold and being bogged down at work has seriously hurt my running lately. Only got an extra 1.61 miles after my 5.15 mile run last week. Did 2.1 miles worth of sprints today. Also played basketball, but I have no way of knowing how many miles I ran doing that.

So, I'm a little behind, but I can catch up. 27.02 for the year.

3.2 on the treadmill. 27:18. It was miserable. I hated it. Just gonna man up to the cold. 30.22 for the year. 969.78 to go!
