The Runner's thread

I do track runs occasionally for speed intervals or to add bleachers to the workout (I don't have hills here). Typically I'd be bored just running around a track, but making a contest out of it sounds interesting.

I can't imagine waking up the next day after running 104 miles. I do 5 miles and yard work in a day and wake up sore, and I am not old.

I am sure it is something that she only does every once in a while. My brother has done an Iron Man and has run for years, and we have discussed that many long runs (i.e. marathons) over a lifetime are actually not good for the body.

She's a freak of nature. Used to play tennis, then just picked up ultrarunning last spring. Won her first 50 mile race by beating every man. Then went and won the 24h race. Got lost at the Devil's Lake 50 mile race and ended up running 58 miles, finished 2nd. 2nd at The North Face Wisconsin 50 mile, among elite utra runners. Barely trains. Drinks way more beer than I do.

Now she wants me to run 50 mile races WITH HER in July and September. Like...is she just going to walk it? There's no effing way I could keep up with her. I can run 1 mile at her pace.

Wow... That's just amazing. Even a regular marathon seems almost impossible to me.

Bought a new pair of Asics on leave though

I loved my Hokas at first, but meh. The more I ran in them, the less I liked the rocker bottom.

I have flat feet.

The answer is still the same. Asics, Brooks, Nike, Saucony, Newton, Mizuno, Adidas, etc all make shoes for all types of arches and pronation/supinations. Visit an expert and try a bunch of pairs on. Get what feels the best.

also, my running is in serious trouble. By internet symptoms, I tore my left calf muscle. Visiting the doc first thing in the morning. I can't put any weight on it or even touch the muscle. It literally felt like someone hit my calf with a baseball and then I was down for the count.

Sounds about right. I tore my quad in HS, same symptoms/description.

That's sucks and sounds painful.

Hope you get a better diag than a torn muscle.

Confirmed. No running for a month at least. Glad I bought the ability to my refund my Country Music Marathon. Hate that I'm going to miss it.

That sucks. Is a month the recovery time or is that kind of a time to wait and see how it feels?

Mostly wait and see. I was advised to mostly stay off it for ten days, then begin to just stretch it as much as I can. Then keep adding to that as I can.
