The Runner's thread

Officially accepted into the Marine Corps Marathon October 25. Got selected through the lottery system. Y'all may remember I stated a New Year's Resolution of a sub 3:45 marathon. This is where I want to make it happen. I'm running the Country Music next month, but I'm just hoping to finish it due to all the hills. I'm totally stoked about this!

Getting back to business. Did a 5k distance yesterday in 32:00.

It was a start. I've got a ways to go. My pacing was bad, my attitude was bad as well.

Went back at it after church tonight. 28:02 for a 5k distance. Certainly not record breaking, but a good number to build on.

It will be fun working and getting in top shape. By the middle of next month I want to be in the 27's and I want to be 10 lbs lighter.

2.25 yesterday at 7:50 pace. I am going to have to work on my pacing on flatter courses. I am trying to go way to fast and it is killing the back half of my run.

In 48 hours you just ran my slowest 5k and my fastest 5k. Haha.

Thanks.

I should be able to. The big change has been that I've moved.

Good to hear. Keep posting. Seeing others get their run on in this thread definitely motivates me!

At the Shamrock Expo, I bought a pair of AURIA headphones for running. The guy at the booth custom fit them to my ears. I have a giant head, but tiny ear lobes. It took forever for them to properly fit me at Basic Training for ear protection. The Drill Sergeant was getting ticked, but there wasn't really much to do. Anyways, these are the first time I've ever had a pair that literally didn't move once in my ears. I'm very happy not just with the fit, but sound quality as well.

That's pretty cool. Where can you get fitted for the headphones at?

Have you tried yurbuds? Perhaps the smaller women's size rubber seals?

5.1 yesterday at 8:04 pace. I did a little better job pacing myself on the first half of the run but still didn't do a great job on the back half. 4th mile was a 7:46 mile and killed the 5th mile at almost a minute slower.

155 for the year.

Ha, big fan, eh? I love mine and I never have to adjust them.

For cheap earbuds they fit as good as anything else (still not good), but the sound quality was poor.

Fwiw, the custom fit involved a different piece for each ear and the left actually required a combo of two different pieces used together. I have weird ears.

6 today @ 8:03 average pace. I did a much better job pacing myself today. Splits were 8:09, 8:05, 8:09, 8:09, 8:04 and 7:40.

I ran today with compression sleeves on my legs for the first time. I have been using them for recovery but this is the first time running with them. I felt like they helped. It could have been all in my head.

5.8 yesterday at some unknown pace
4.4 today at some unknown pace

Guess I'll carry my iPhone with Runtastic Tuesday to find out my pace these days.
