The Runner's thread

4 miles today. We ran as a family at the river park today. It was kind of an effe you to the terrible things that happened here over a week ago. My family and I spend a fair amount of time on the river park running and playing and we didn't want to let some terrorist take our park away from us.

Also bought so some new shoes today. Went back with the Brooks Adrenaline. This is my four or fifth pair of them. I have really liked them and the guy at the running store said my wear pattern was dead on with where is should be. That just made me feel better about them being the right shoe for me.

Fellow Chattanoogan. Gotta love the riverwalk. rIP to the fallen marines.

Just getting back into jogging, am currently on a good day if I make it 3/4 of a mile.

12 miles on the riverwalk/walking bridge/coolidge this morning. personal best

This thread will be good for me. Some unofficial motivation. I've never run more than like 2 miles.

Ran in the neighborhood today, getting back in shape. I am going to space it out 3 days a week. I did four last time and got shin splints, kind of killed my momentum.

Edit: How do you guys know how far you have run without running on a track? Do those wristbands work? noob question lol.

I use the runkeeper app on my phone. There is other apps to use too plus you could use a watch.

If you are getting shin splints you could need new shoes.

Yea, Runkeeper app and an armband iphone holder. Keep track of your mileage, time, # of runs, and more apparently if you decide to upgrade to a paid version of it (I don't do).

I only started using Runkeeper less than a year ago and now I can't imagine not using it

I have been using it for about three or four years now and they have come leaps and bounds from when they first started.

The paid version is supposed to give you more insight to you runs but I have never paid for it so I have no idea if its actually worth it.

I'll show myself out.

I have a garmin watch that tracks everything. Got it on amazon.

Make sure you stretch your calves well before and after your run. Tight calves could make you feel like you have shin splints.

I have always been a stretch before I run type of person. My legs feel way too tight to run if I don't stretch before hand. I have seen a lot of people that don't stretch before a run.

I stretch calves for about 3 seconds, and that's it.

If I'm feeling tight I'll walk briskly for a couple minutes before I run.

Oh thanks.

Yeah I am definitely going to pick up some Asics or something. New Balances suck currently running in Nikes.

I only stretch before if I feel tight. Stretching afterwards is good for recovery.

I would suggest going to a running store and have them fit you for the right shoe. It could make all the difference in the world.

Has anyone tried the Nike+ running app. Ive been using it but it doesnt seem accurate to me. I was running on a treadmill today and the app said i did 2 miles while the treadmill had me at 1.1

I have yet to find a device that can accurately measure an indoor run. Even the Nike+ watch and using the shoe pod wasn't that accurate.
