The Runner's thread

2 mile track run. 7:14 pace. First time in a long time I have ran at a track and last night reminded me why its been so long. I hate running around a track.

My greatest fear has come true... I got sick and will get behind in my marathon training. Anyone have any advice?

How sick? A couple of missed runs is no big deal. But if we're talking like two or three weeks of down time, it's something different

Vomiting, fever. The actual sickness lasted less than 24 hours but I feel like I'm still weak from it. Haven't tried to run yet, but I have the feeling like it's going to be really tough due to me being weakened.

Ugh.

That does suck but main thing to remember when recovering from being sick especially with vomiting is make sure you get rehydrated. That will help you go a long way with getting back in the swing of things.

As mentioned above, stay hydrated, almost what will feel like over hydrated. A few missed runs won't harm you, neither will getting out there and going a little. Just don't overdo it until you feel like you're 100%. Even if you run two miles instead of four at two minutes per mile slowerthan your normal pace, it will help more than not getting out there. Maintain your schedule though, don't try to add runs to catch up. You'll just wear further down m

I think this is a very important point. I have seen people get behind in training for something and think that adding to it will help out. It only ends up hurting them in the long run.

Ok so you guys are saying to, whenever I feel ready, pick back up the training plan as if I never left. Do not add more frequency of runs to catch up.

Is that right?

Today I'll be doing the challenge of using the Stairmaster for 5 minutes then running on the treadmill.

Five minutes on each?

Will you be switching back and forth?

Nope I should have specified beyond five minutes.

I'll spend 5 minutes on the Stairmaster machine then second I will run on the Treadmill for 10 minutes, and a 5 minute cool down.

So no doubt it will be a intense workout.

3 miles last night at about 8 o'clock. Weather felt good last night. Just started my run out too fast to get any kind of distance.

4 miles today... slow. it was so humid! I keep seeing all these post about fall on fb and instagram, but apparently Virginia Beach didn't get the message.

Finished my 16 mile run yesterday morning. It wasn't too bad with exception of some knee pain toward the end. However, I think I will be able to tough it out for ten more miles, so I'm going to official commit myself to doing my first marathon next month.

My time won't be anything to be proud of, but I will finish.
