The Runner's thread

5.5 miles again tonight. Seeing improvement, but it's slow. I have to keep reminding myself I'm only four months from being on crutches and not even being able to put weight on it. My endurance is increasing I think, but I can still only go so fast.

Who has a recommendation on some headphones to use while running?

Also, saw these on Shark Tank and got suckered in to buying some. Anyone heard of them or used them? I'll be running with them for the first time today so we will see if I just wasted money or not.

I had some Phillips ear buds that I got at Target for like ten bucks I think. I wore them for a long time before I quit listening to music while a run.

I have never used any insoles. Always felt like the ones that came in the Brooks worked well enough for me. Let us know how they work out for you.

Adidas Spring Blade

These are new running shoes that are amazing. It makes running easier on your feet, and you feel the boost if you are flat ground.
No doubt these are far better than anything Nike has.

New? They've been out at least 2 years.

I will add however since I try and stay out of the main forum, that for all the crap VNers piled on Adidas as being garbage, the Adidas Boost is widely regarded as a top level running shoe and worn by several elite runners, sponsored and not.

Sounds like Butch described your injury. "he has a lower extremity injury"

in all seriousness tho I hope it gets better for ya. Don't overdo it and ice it every day

:lolabove: I'm not sure I could describe it any other way though. That's pretty much how if feels. I cannot pinpoint a certain spot.

Thanks for the well wishes. I have been icing it and trying not to push to hard because I don't want to hurt myself and not reach my goal of 600 miles for the year. I am just over 400 now.

4 miles yesterday with the family. 7:46 pace. I figured that's not too bad for pushing a stroller with a 30 lbs two year old and my five year old riding his bike the whole way.

Not bad. I can't do that pace without pushing anything.

I went to the Greenway yesterday and got embarrassed by the hills. Yikes.

6.25 today at 9:40 pace

so, 5.1 in 49:50. Not my best by a long shot, but I'm four months removed from a serious calf tear and have been running less than 4 weeks and I squeezed out sub 10 minute miles. I'm ecstatic. It also included about 1.5 miles in loose sand so even better right?

I would say that's pretty darn good. Making progress and that's the good thing.

Thought I would post my running update: I was up to about a mile and a half with no problems when my achilles started hurting. Not like a muscle tear but just pain in right achilles and ankle. Limped for a couple of days. Took about a week off. Just bought a pair of Asics and am feeling 100% so I'm gonna run in the morning and see how I feel.

In my football days I toughed through a lot worse, but I guess I'm getting older.
