The Runner's thread

Finished my 16 mile run yesterday morning. It wasn't too bad with exception of some knee pain toward the end. However, I think I will be able to tough it out for ten more miles, so I'm going to official commit myself to doing my first marathon next month.

My time won't be anything to be proud of, but I will finish.

Time doesn't matter... Finishing the distance is what matters. That's what you should be proud of.

Over 200 calories burned, and 214 max heartrate on the treadmill. A great workout on Sunday.

My legs feel great rested, and Im ready to again get back on the stairmaster and the treadmill.

214 heart rate? Did you mean 114? Wouldn't your heart explode at 214? I don't know for sure but just asking.

Ideally even a 20 year old shouldn't get over 200. If it's a valid 200+ then he might back off a little. If it's the treadmill giving the HR display and you know enough to tell your own HR, then just be careful. I've been on different machines and many have been inaccurate, reading much higher than my HR was in reality.

I have been on treadmills before and had them show a high heart rate like over 200 and I always figured they were inaccurate.

I'm into Spartan Race training mode. Running with intervals and hills, some days with a mid-run session of push ups, pull ups, and core. I have backed off a little on weights and am doing more body weight exercises and higher rep and negative stuff. 3.5 with hills tonight at 8:20 pace.

10K. 44:43

11th overall, 4th in my age group (30-29). A 61 year old won with a time of 38:38 (or there about).

5 miles today. Pushed hard the first two miles to gauge my PT Test, but it just feels good being out there

11.5 miles yesterday at Greenway Farms. Did the loop twice (with all the hills), with some road running in between them. For any of you that are from Chattanooga and know where I'm talking about... this run is absolutely brutal.

Hoping this hill training will serve me well. Probably going to do my 20 mile run next weekend in prep for the marathon on Oct. 18th. If I remember right, next weekend is the last one before starting to taper off.

That run is absolutely brutal and the hill training will serve you will. You will be surprised. Are you running the seven bridges marathon?

I had a major ankle sprain several weeks ago. I'm beginning to believe it's worse than just a sprain. I have a huge swelling about an inch underneath the ankle joint bone. Occasional bruising on heel pad. And slight tightness in Achilles area. I've been told runners get tarsal tunnel syndrome. Have any of you had that?

Never heard of it.
