The Runner's thread

How did it go?

It went well. I apparently didn't get close enough to the front of the starting line because it was at least a minute before I crossed it when they started the race. Then I got behind a wall of moms with strollers. So despite all that I finished in 34 minutes. Feel like I would have been closer to 32 if it wasn't for all that.

Getting ready for my first Spartan Race in Nashville this weekend. I'm with a team, so not really focused on time, just getting through all the obstacles. If my wife gives me the green light (she's running also), I might try to push it, though.

Spartan Races are interesting. Which distance are you doing?

I've experienced that before. Getting stuck behind slow peeps. Good job though

Governor's Run on November 1. It's a 4+ mile European cross country style run. Vaguely running through the woods, on singletrack, doubletrack, and thorn bushes. All in order to collect flags and get prizes. I'm so excited.

It's a Sprint, team of 14 with "variable" fitness levels :)

The running part doesn't worry me at all. The obstacles look a bit interesting. I have kept in pretty good shape lifting, have done some crossfit-type training with jumps, carrying heavy crap, etc, and practiced spear throwing. I'm most concerned with the rope climbing and monkey-bar type stuff, as I have no way of really practicing. My goal is to do as few burpees as possible.

3 mile shakedown run as my final run before the marathon Sunday. My time is going to be awful, in fact I know I'll be walking some, but the good news is I think my leg will hold up just fine. All I want is the bling anyway.

3 trail miles with the pooch this evening at Concord. Threw some spears for fun this evening. Time to stretch and get ready for Spartan fun on Saturday.

I enjoyed the Sprint and Super. The Beast was fine up until the halfway point.

Good luck.

about 1.3 today. Calf soreness but pushed through, had to walk towards the end. I would jog 20 yards, walk 5, jog 20 etc. I will increase on distance on Sunday.

See guys, I'll be at 3-4 miles in two weeks.

The Spartan Race was so much fun (well, maybe all but the barbed wire crawl). Cleared every obstacle except missed the stupid spear target. My right bicep is hating life today.

Did 3 yesterday. Have to do 4 today per my training. I'm still having to walk part of the way. Sad how out of shape I've gotten

Nice Bill

Thanks. I wasn't ready at all, but it's awesome to know I went from crutches to a marathon in five months. My horrible time gives me motivation to run through the winter!

Thanks to all of y'all for keeping me motivated. This thread is awesome

Ran about 1.3-4 ish twice in last week. I am walking way less, getting in shape. I am going to wait until I can run 1.5 without stopping and then Increase from there.

Back home in Johnson City for a couple weeks of leave. I have lots of asphalt routes here, but does anyone know of some good running trails? There's plenty to hike, but I want a nice trail run. Thanks in advance.

I don't know JC well enough to help you out. Good luck though. Getting about that time were we can have some nice trail runs with some good color in the trees.
