The Runner's thread

I've always loved swimming. Since I was a kid. Just need to get drastically better at my form.

I ride my mountain bike a lot. There aren't nearly enough trails here though and I like the idea of riding on the road. I'm afraid to go cheap though. I'd want to start upgrading immediately. And I can't bring myself to spend $2k on a bike. Just sounds insane. But we'll see what happens if i hit my 3:40 marathon at the end of the year.

It is a very long range goal. I have certain PR times in a half and full marathon this fall I want to hit before I really get into going to do a tri, but I'd definitely need to improve my form for swimming and it's just a great all around workout.

I also need to buy a decent enough bike to carry me through a tri.

Jesus Christ don't do triathlons. They're so stupid and you'll end up spending so much money on gear just to be mildly competitive or hit a PR.

I do like the fact that running doesn't require a ton of money in gear to compete. Of course races are expensive and just like any other sport or hobby you can spend a large amount of money if you wanted.

Coming home in September. The great debate: Run the Smoky Mountains Half Marathon on Sep 10 or try and get tickets to the VT game?

I still don't think I'll enjoy the game itself by going. Am I crazy? Am I crazy for wanting to be in the Tri Cities area that weekend if I'm not even going to the game?

Will also be in long enough to do the Bluegrass Half in Johnson City on Sep 25

You said you have a problem spending $2k on a bike... That's like a mid to low level entry tri bike cost.

Only if I'm trying to be some sort of superstar would I need to get something nicer. F that. I just want to finish. No one has any crazy ideas that I'm going to be a stud out there.

5.3 with my canine companion on the East Lakeshore trail in LC. Beautiful as always, but had to pull 4 ticks off Mazzy last night!

Somebody asked about socks. My favorites are the Thorlo Experia -- padding in the right places but not too thick. I wear some thinner Swiftwicks if I'm on trails or expect to get wet.

Registered for the half this Sunday. It'll be my first road half and then I have to ride my bike another 13 miles to work directly after. 😂😂

Saturday marks the 2 year anniversary of trail running for me. Probably the most monumental change in my life since I took up bicycling.
