The Runner's thread

What is a good start? I'm not really out of shape but I don't run. Looking to start. Thinking 3-4 runs of 10 minutes a week until it's easy.

Anyone ever had a long lasting case of plantar fasciitis? I've had it for almost 2 years. Had everything done to my heel besides the fascia release procedure.

I have two pieces of advice:

1. Orthopedic doctor. Do not go to a podiatrist.
2. No steroid injections.

My dad made that mistake a couple years ago (without telling me, or I wouldn't have let it happen) and it now dealing with his second Achilles tendon tear.

I have ortho inserts and stopped wearing nikes. I had the blood spin fusion thing they are doing now and that helped reduce the swelling but it's still there.

Did the first workout of the couch to 5k and thought it was pretty easy. Foot was a little sore this morning but that's usually when it is in general.

Got my fat ass up at 5 AM to hit the pavement. Did a pattern of walk 2 mins and run 3 mins for 35:00. Trying to get back into running shape.

Ran my 2nd fastest 5k last night, out of my backdoor instead of in a race, at 26:36. My sub 25 goal for July4 seems to be within reach.

3.2 miles of hills today. I have a long way to go before I'll be comfortable for running the Smoky Mountain Half in September

Today's hill training turned into more of a hike. 4 miles up and back down Lone Oak Trail to the top of Buffalo Mountain

Just registered for two events. The Chattanooga Heroes 5m Run/Walk on July 16th and the Hotter n Hell 5k on August 6th at Victor Ashe Park.

Does anyone know if any of the local (Knoxville) running tracks are available for public use? I've read that high school tracks generally allow public use, but the Knoxville Track Club's website isn't very specific about which ones are open to the public.

I know it's boring running in a circle, but I'm more interested in the running surface. My old knees don't have to support as much weight as they used to, but running on paved surfaces all the time can't be good even for people in prime physical condition.

Do you like running dirt trails? There are tons of cool options around the area.

I run at Victor Ashe right now, which has a mix of paved and cross country trails. Not to sound wimpy, but I'd like a running track because it's level. My conditioning is getting better, but even slight hills take a toll on me right now, especially late in my training interval.
