The Runner's thread

3.9 in 17 degree weather, real feel around 6. So much ice, I barely averaged 11:30. I never fell though!

Disney Marathon was painful. Sit out there for 2 hours freezing, waiting to start. It warmed up about half way through, but the wind was painful the entire race.

Why were you there two hours early? I've never arrived to the starting line more than 20 minutes early and I've been in some fairly large marathons

Disney starts their runs at 530 and if taking Disney transport, you have to be on bus/monorail by 0400. If you are driving the line for parking is crazy. Then you have to go through security and it's about a 15 minute walk from staging area to corrals. You are supposed to be in corrals by 0500, especially if you are assigned to one for the first 5-6 corrals.
For me I wake up early to eat and it literally makes me sick to my stomach to even think I might be late to anything. So to avoid all the people that wait till the last minute to get there, I go early. Most people do there. The staging area will be packed by 4.

The Dopey was a bucket list item to work up to, but f that noise. For both Marine Corps I've done, I parked on Fort Meyer, walked down the hill and was marathon running within 5 minutes

Id like to do the dopey too, just doubt ill be able to get there for that many days any time soon. I am planning on doing the Marine Corps next yea . I hear its awesome. St Jude is a good one if you a willing to head to Memphis. The half and full start together so you can do either, if get going and dont feel like doing the full. Mile 5 you run through St Jude campus with losts of kids out there, awesome feeling. Community support is great throughout.

I was in O. It was too freaking cold. Got through 14.5 miles and my head cold and waist line got me.

Congrats on finishing the race!!

Good deal, and you too. I made two mistakes. I wear a Fitirex (SP) water belt and I carried my phone in the belt pouch to take pictures and it didn't seat well. Took me to about my 8-9 to finally get it adjusted right. Secondly, I have to get some better shoes. I always run in Brooks Ravena with super feet insoles. But by mile 19-20 the bottom of my feet were killing me. I have been asking around about the Hoka or QN shoes that have more padding for longer runs, have you ever used those? I don't have anymore fulls coming up for a while so I may shop around. I am doing the Ragnar in March and the Oak Barrel in April.

I just bought a pair of the Ons. Go get fitted fir the right pair, but I love the Cloudflyers that I got. Incredibly comfy

I have not. I am a heavier guy so I wear cushion type running shoes. Last time I finished a marathon, which was a while back, I remember too my feet were killing the last 6 miles.

I can't run with a belt or phone.

Just me and be road.

i don't like wearing a belt but i drink body armor and they usually have Gatorade or PowerAde. So at the stations I just get water and have body armor in my belt. I typically only use it for half or full, anything under and I'm good on my own.

Hoka's are great shoes. I just don't like dropping that much on a pair of shoes (even with as much as I run).

Altra makes some zero drop ultra cushioned shoes. They are pricey as well, but seem to be on sale a lot more than Hoka.

2.22 (which is short) in who knows how long. My watch was acting retarded. My "average pace" was around 10 minutes which is laughable. So I said f*** it.

2.69 (which again was probably short). The watch was fine for about a mile, then went to s*** on the pace again.

I've contacted Garmin about it.
