The Runner's thread

Thanks. Hoping that half a Monster drink and the race-day adrenaline can push me closer to 7:45ish.

I always drink a Monster Muscle about 45 minutes before a race. The addition of the monster plus the adrenaline of a timed race really steps up my pace compared to a normal run.

I am not a morning runner, so it's a little weird to me. I never really know what to do. No way I'm waking up 2 hours before to eat something, and I can't eat right before without getting an upset stomach. Prob just stick with caffeine and binge after.

Missed a day this week, but 29.5 miles. Also, I had my longest run since I restarted running - 8 miles. Slow pace, but I was trying a new distance.

I'm "Running" a turkey day 5K with my wife and a friend. I don't know how much running will occur since I'm recovering from walking pneumonia, but will be fun either way.

Always!

Cold start, but blew away my PR 10k today: 45:42. Pretty proud of that time.

Great job.

I’m disappointed in my 5k time. 30:20. I lost so much time in the first .35mi having to wiggle past people. After that I ran scared, worrying about pushing myself too much and having to slow down.

I run pretty slow and my first ever 5K - I started in the back thinking that's where I would finish. I will never do that again.

I’m nervous about starting near the front because I don’t want to trip up the fast folks. That said I’m disappointed to run nearly 4 minutes slower over a 5k distance that I did when I was training this week.

Oh well! I’ll try to do a race or two in December.

Those of you that drink an energy drink or preworkout before a race, doesn’t that make your heart rate get away from you?

Not me, but caffeine doesn't bother me. Monster muscle at 6:45 a.m. I like the antsy, bounce-around feeling to get me running, especially if it's early in the morning. I usually work out or run in the evening.

Hey man, be proud that you ran hard and finished. Remember: it's a small percentage of the population that can go put down 3 10:00 miles. Your body and heart aren't disappointed at all!

Has anyone tried the Nike Zoom Vaperfly 4%?

Heard they are really good.

Anyone in Huntsville Running the Hobbs island 10k?

26:38 for a 5k distance on the treadmill. That’s getting back in the range I ought to be. Still have a ways to go to back to the 23-24 minute range, but I’m feeling good.

Any of you have recommendations for running in the cold? My times are all way down, and I have a ton of trouble breathing when it's anywhere below about 55 out. Gym membership is out of the question til next year as I'll be out of the country for a little while.

It’s just the nature of the beast. You’ll get gains in regular climate if you keep pushing. Use a cough lozenge or fireball candy to keep your nostrils clear of mucus clogging things up too. And STRETCH. STRETCH. STRETCH. Don’t tear your calf or anything else due to cold muscles
