The Runner's thread

Thanks, doc! I appreciate the advice. I'm actually doing a lot better than I imagined at this point. Im still doing RICE, but Im walking on it with only a slight limp. A PT buddy of mine said crutches for 3-4 weeks, but I'm ready to ditch those already!! Lol... This thing hurt like hell when it happened, but I'm beginning to think it wasn't as bad as I believed it to be...thank goodness.

That's certainly good to hear. Probably just a strain...a real tear wouldn't heal that quickly. Happy trails!

Ran a trail half marathon on Saturday at Mines of Spain in Dubuque, Iowa. Third time I've done this race and it was the hardest time. Weather was perfect, but I haven't run at all this year. I had forgotten I even signed up for it in April. Not really any flat sections and probably climbed >500 stairs.

There's a 5k trail run coming up soon that I'm tempted to try. The change in terrain and scenery might be fun

Also signed up for a 10k in a couple months

Quit running. Went to new workout. No knee, ankle or Achilles pain.

Also, won't be seeing narcissistic post on times. Later

Got chased by two dogs on my run yesterday. Ended up stepping off a curb and hurting my ankle. Sucks.

Doing a 5k in November. My conditioning is greatly improving, now I am having issues with lower back pain holding me up.

Any recommend stretches or posture? I notice the more bolt-upright I stand when I run the pain does subside.

I've missed this thread. Been confined to the treadmill all summer and the cooler temps have got me scratching at that itch to get back outside on pavement. Dad beat prostate cancer first of this year and Man Run is my only scheduled "race" this fall but planning for a couple halfs early next year. Anybody have any upcoming? Knoxville recommendations?

Also, any shoe recommendations? I've been running in Newtons (Gravity) for the past 3 versions, and while I love the shoe/design, the new $175 price tag has me looking for other options. Minimal is preferred and heel-toe probably no more than 6mm. Have over 700 miles on this pair so the swap has got to happen soon. Thanks for any and all suggestions.

The awesome thing about Newtons is that you can get that kind of mileage. Only other shoe I know with that kind of mileage ability are On Runing shoes. I run in the Gravity and a pair of On Cloudflyers. Drop in the Ons is 7mm though.

Maybe look at a pair of Pure series by brooks. Might get 4-500 miles

Unofficial time of 1:20:42

It was 76 w/ 80% humidity. Terrible running weather. Lots of people went down, saw at least 10

Update:

I did some reading. I changed my posture to a more upright position. I had been hunched over, and that must have been putting my lower back under stress. I also got my arms pumping better.

Those changes really made a difference. Did my whole run pain free.

I'm training up for a military school and I did a run today with Nike run club. Anyone else here use it? My Fitbit broke so it was nice seeing my pace distance and splits broken down.

I run so slow the Nike app makes me sad. I normally just use my Fitbit.

Hit 32 miles last week - posting the weekly total to try and beat it and hold myself accountable.

First 6 mile run in quite a while yesterday, just under 8:00 pace. Stretching and light jogs only until Thursday. I'm hoping for a respectable 10k!

Nice work.

I’m starting to get my old pace back. 8:38 pace for a 5k distance today. I’ve been trying to take better care of my body. Hopefully with more work I can get below 25-24 minutes for a 5k like I was 3 years ago.

Thanks. Hoping that half a Monster drink and the race-day adrenaline can push me closer to 7:45ish.
