The Section 103 Postgame Report

I'm not the least bit upset. I've resigned myself to the fact that this is a slightly better than average team with a coaching staff that lacks the chops to come up with adjustments to mask their weaknesses.

My two biggest problems with the team this year are:

1) The lack of production from most of our young players (I was too optimistic)

2) The lack of coaching adjustments to compensate for the lack of inexperience.

Why Negedu hasn't seen more significant playing time than he has is beyond me.

I would also like to add that Maze and the other point guards are a step slower than the opponents guards. Hence the reason any team with a decent shooter can have a field day on us.

Pearl needs to do something but I'm beginning to think he is in over his head. People will not continue to pay for this type of basketball.

I think he should let them run and gun and do away with setting an offense.....

Florida can't go inside on Tennessee. So, if Florida is missing their perimeter shots, it could end up being a long day for them.
Have we played a team that can't hit their perimeter shots against our crappy defense yet? No. This won't be any different.

We need to stop with the press. We dont have the experience to run a full court press, I would rather see them pick up the intensity at Halfcourt or run the zone they ran last night.

Tyler Smith......This kills me and if it bothers anyone else please let me know. He is the pump fake king! But when you get a defender in the air why does he not lean into them draw the foul then shoot the ball. It happens all the time, he will pump fake a three and his guy will go flying by him in mid air. Why not jump into him and throw up a shot. Everyone in the next level in the NBA does that. Paul Pierce and L.James are the best at it. You gotta take the contact and get to the line! But then again with they way this team shoots free throws maybe not a good idea.

We need some shooters and when people drive this year compared to last no one passes the ball. We had a 4 on 1 last night and Scotty tried to take it up strong and got ripped and the ball went out of bounds...He needs to dish that ball and quit being a selfish player.

Bruce needs to do some serious soul searching on this team. He needs to take it back to basics and tell them at least 4 passes before a shot. And on defense everyone needs to crash the boards.
Everyone of them need to be in the GYM lifting weights because they are way to SOFT!

The question that needs to be addressed is why Bobby Maze was taking a deep 3 when we were down one with under a minute to go. I know Bruce says to shoot when your open, but there needs to be a play call in that instance.

Sounds like I'm lucky to have no power and only access to the Internet via this phone.

There were 648 students in the Tommy Bowl last night. We had more students at the games when I was there during Buzz Ball. Pretty shameful.

Nice. I think this deserves its own thread. "Who would you rather have play than JP?"

I vote for Gus's (the deli guy gus's) sidekick. I always liked that guy.

Can the sidekick dribble? If so he will do better than Prince.

Is it me or do you guys just sit and hold your breath every time we have possesion of the ball. Our overall court awareness is terrible-from Tyler trying to drag 3 guys to the hole-to Wayne putting up the shot against Johnson. Even defensively--not Tabb's fault for giving up the critical 3 point play but the guy who is supposed to rotate over and help. Florida will beat us because they will score off of every pick and roll they run if we stay in that sorry man to man. Our kids are lazy. No savvy.

Man that is dead on. Everytime we get the ball all I am hoping for is a good shot and no turnover. It seems like I am on pins and needles everytime we have the ball, especially when we get a turnover and try to fly down the court. We almost always end up turning the ball back over in these situations.

I am going to try to sell a positive spin. While I have documented in other threads that I think this team is average and will show no improvement over the course of the year, I think it is merely a bandaid between inherited good talent (Smith/Lofton) and future solid hoopsters. This team is a hurried together collection of castoffs, transfers and raw freshman lacking solid on-court instincts. I think this season will improve Pearl as a coach as he figures out how to get productivity out of such a collection of individuals.

Florida's two biggest road wins this year were at Auburn and at Vandy. TBA is a completely different atmosphere. Also, lets not forget, Florida hasn't actually played the top 3 teams in the SEC yet: UK, LSU, UT. Yeah, they blew out their last two opponents (Vandy and UGA) who I dare say have a less effective defense than ours. Like I said before, if Florida is not hitting their perimeter shots, they will lose. If Chism stays out of foul trouble, he should dominate Tyus and Kadji inside.

I agree with every word of that.

Not playing Negedu and not playing zone cost us down the stretch.

I am just wondering when we will realize what players not to play down the stretch. Hopson cannot be trusted at this time at the end of games. That will change, but that is a fact of life right now.

I thought Tyler was forcing it way too much at the end as well.

yes the zone affected their outside shooting but we were horrid on rebounding in the zone and they got some key rebounds and putbacks during that stretch each and every time.
amazes me how people are jumping on Bruce.

wonder how it is his fault we miss enough fts to win the game and we miss 18 shots from inside 4 feet.

last night we simply got outhustled.

The coach holds a lot of responsibility when the same guys who continue to not get back on defense and not hustle continue to see top minutes.

This is why I expect UT to beat Florida soundly Saturday, I really do.

lg is just saying all of this so he can come back after Saturday's game and gloat even more about how he "never saw it coming" and how "Florida just soundly defeated an opponent that they should have lost to convincingly."

Remnd me again who has the power to remove players from the game for lack of effort. It is becoming readily apparent that the Pearl Slurpers are going to be every bit as detrimental to the basketball program as the Fulmerites were to football.

Reality is a hard thing to swallow.

Hated to read this report today but knew you would once again be on target. So what is the fix?

Yeah, those 648 students really created a great atmosphere last night. LSU was really petrified.
