The Section 103 Postgame Report

Steve Fisher's resume is pretty much as good, thus proving you can.

The coaches that win two national championships are in a different class than the ones that win one or less. This is why Fulmer will never be considered an elite coach.

So you're saying he tried very hard to do something he had no clue how to do. And how is that effective?
It's not real complicated, though I've come to realize you Davidson suckups like to act as if hoops is debate club. If you expend more effort than the other guy and are a better athlete than he is, you'll tend to get more than your fair share of success, lack of basketball sophistication notwthstanding.

I don't see how a coach who has changed the landscape of Tennessee basketball be this harshly criticized DURING one "down" year.

Who have we hired who did better?
Brlliant logic. If it hasn't been done, it can't be. I guess that means I can expect to see CCNY and Loyola of Chicago in the Final Four this year, being that they've done it before and all. Further, someone needs to tell all the teams who have never been to the Final Four before, like Pitt, Gonzaga, et al, that they should drop basketball because they are never getting there.

I have ripped Tennessee's lack of a halfcourt defense or offense since Pearl got here. Now that he doesn't have shooters to mask that inadequacy, everyone can see it.

Hat has never liked Pearl. When the team is down, this is what we'll get from Hat.

There may very well be 15 realistic options who could do better - I don't know.
But, I do think we would get publicly ripped if we pulled the rug out from under Pearl and would face a very difficult transition.

He has created a buzz around the program, and brought new butts in the seats. But he was a blessed recipient of two tremendous outside shooters the past few years here.

I have never been a fan of Bruce's in-game coaching abilities. Especially in the tournament...

Compared to most programs, an SEC championship, a couple of sweet 16s and a short, yet earned, #1 ranking aren't bad. We have to remember that we're not Kansas or UNC or Kentucky.

U don't have to be Kansas, UNC, or Kentucky to play "sound" basketball. I hate this attitude too.

Florida's football and basketball teams in the last 20 years have played as well as the traditional powers, but they had no tradition before that.

Should we be telling them now that they are no Michigan in football, or Kentucky in basketball? I like history as well as the next person, but it doesn't guarantee wins or losses in the future.

I do know one thing that has a great bearing on wins and losses, and that is playing sound and fundamental basketball, with great effort. Of course you need the right players on the court to do this better than the other team, and these responsibilities fall on the coaching staff.

You assume too much.

The point was made that Pearl's best years at UT are behind us. For someone with standards so high they'll never be met, resulting in repetitive disappointment and misery, Pearl hasn't accomplished anything noteworthy.

For rational thinkers, he has done more than any coach in this program's recent history, and a far improvement from the dismal years I grew up following UT bball. Therefore, I believe he's earned the right to try to bounce back - at least another year or two. This is NOT the same situation as watching Fulmer put out about 8 straight mediocre seasons before making that move. Nowhere close.

If you produce the millions required to buy him out and fund your recommended replacement, go for it. However, as a casual UT fan, I'll appreciate what he's done and not lose any sleep over one poor season out of 4.

You did the assuming. Based on my post, you drew a conclusion that I was measuring success or failure based totally on wins and losses, success in the tournament, etc. Many times, those things can be based on luck. Often, luck favors the most prepared or determined.

The worst thing you can do in sports is underachieve. When that happens, you will receive criticism. I hope Pearl proves my gut feeling wrong, as I always want to see UT do well. I know he is going to be here a few years (unless he leaves on his own accord), based on his success the first 3 years.

I just want some good basketball to be played, and if you don't want to play the right way, then you sit on the bench until you do.

I'm still waiting for someone to find a post where I've advocated Pearl being fired. Further, now that we've established you are merely a casual fan, I can just disregard anything you have to say about the program and save us both the time we would spend debating UT issues further.

Wow! It does not take long for people to turn on somebody around here, does it? I could have sworn Bruce Pearl was a god last year. Maybe it is true, we do have the worst fans.

As for hatvol, I got no use for the miserable SOB. Iggy me b----!!!

Why would I do that? I occasionally like to see what the Under 75 IQ crowd has to say. You provide a good sample of that group"s thoughts.

4. I am thoroughly confused as to why Pearl didn't use the zone more extensively. LSU looked lost against it.Posted via VolNation Mobile

As much as ive read this from you I can't believe it actually hasnt hit Pearl yet.. You gonna make yourself available for the HC position when Pearl is gone in 3 years?

Bruce was a god to those fans that thought UT basketball started in 2004.

It also is because many of those "fans" believe it is taboo to question a coach. It is the key component of the Fulmerite philosophy... also known as sheepology.

We ran the zone 2 possessions in a row, LSU scored twice in a row. One of those scores was due to no rebounding on our part, which may or may not be attributed to being out of position due to the zone. Maybe we should have tried it one or 2 more possessions just to be sure, or maybe just randomly when we desperately needed a stop just to throw them off a bit. But it definitely did no good during the first half when we employed it.

It doesn't take much to be a God to the average, casual, and low IQ crowd.

I don't know about the worst, but if any substantial portion of our fanbase felt Bruce was a coaching God, we are certainly in the running for stupidest.

It won't cure all the woes, but the coaching staff playing the guys who actually expend effort and realizing this is a team best suited to playing zone defense and running set pieces on offense would be a nice start.

are you, perhaps, advocating a starting five of Tabb, Tatum (for lack of a better option), Negedu, Tyler and Chism?
