It's not real complicated, though I've come to realize you Davidson suckups like to act as if hoops is debate club. If you expend more effort than the other guy and are a better athlete than he is, you'll tend to get more than your fair share of success, lack of basketball sophistication notwthstanding. So you're saying he tried very hard to do something he had no clue how to do. And how is that effective?
Brlliant logic. If it hasn't been done, it can't be. I guess that means I can expect to see CCNY and Loyola of Chicago in the Final Four this year, being that they've done it before and all. Further, someone needs to tell all the teams who have never been to the Final Four before, like Pitt, Gonzaga, et al, that they should drop basketball because they are never getting there.Who have we hired who did better?
I have ripped Tennessee's lack of a halfcourt defense or offense since Pearl got here. Now that he doesn't have shooters to mask that inadequacy, everyone can see it.I don't see how a coach who has changed the landscape of Tennessee basketball be this harshly criticized DURING one "down" year.

Compared to most programs, an SEC championship, a couple of sweet 16s and a short, yet earned, #1 ranking aren't bad. We have to remember that we're not Kansas or UNC or Kentucky.

You assume too much.
The point was made that Pearl's best years at UT are behind us. For someone with standards so high they'll never be met, resulting in repetitive disappointment and misery, Pearl hasn't accomplished anything noteworthy.
For rational thinkers, he has done more than any coach in this program's recent history, and a far improvement from the dismal years I grew up following UT bball. Therefore, I believe he's earned the right to try to bounce back - at least another year or two. This is NOT the same situation as watching Fulmer put out about 8 straight mediocre seasons before making that move. Nowhere close.
If you produce the millions required to buy him out and fund your recommended replacement, go for it. However, as a casual UT fan, I'll appreciate what he's done and not lose any sleep over one poor season out of 4.
I'm still waiting for someone to find a post where I've advocated Pearl being fired. Further, now that we've established you are merely a casual fan, I can just disregard anything you have to say about the program and save us both the time we would spend debating UT issues further. You assume too much.

Why would I do that? I occasionally like to see what the Under 75 IQ crowd has to say. You provide a good sample of that group"s thoughts.Wow! It does not take long for people to turn on somebody around here, does it? I could have sworn Bruce Pearl was a god last year. Maybe it is true, we do have the worst fans.
As for hatvol, I got no use for the miserable SOB. Iggy me b----!!!
4. I am thoroughly confused as to why Pearl didn't use the zone more extensively. LSU looked lost against it.Posted via VolNation Mobile

I don't know about the worst, but if any substantial portion of our fanbase felt Bruce was a coaching God, we are certainly in the running for stupidest.Wow! It won't cure all the woes, but the coaching staff playing the guys who actually expend effort and realizing this is a team best suited to playing zone defense and running set pieces on offense would be a nice start.
