The Section 103 Postgame Report

Reality is a hard thing to swallow.

Hated to read this report today but knew you would once again be on target. So what is the fix?
It won't cure all the woes, but the coaching staff playing the guys who actually expend effort and realizing this is a team best suited to playing zone defense and running set pieces on offense would be a nice start.

He still has no idea what the Hell he's doing. However, his effort and athletic ability compensate for his shortcomings in experience and feel for the game. Further, some of the minutes he took tonight would normally have been Prince's. Anything that shortens JP's time on the floor is good to me.

This sounds like some major league hedging. You bashed the poor kid not two weeks ago. "See ball, get ball" - remember that?

How can he have no clue what he's doing, yet provide such a clear spark by exploiting the other teams' weaknesses, grabbing rebounds, preventing his man from getting the ball down low, hitting nearly every shot he took, getting good position on offense and calling for the ball, drawing several key fouls down low, and making all his free throws?

I was flummoxed by Pearl's decision to not start Maze, but more flummoxed by his decision to yank Negedu after he clearly initiated the comeback and had shown no signs of being a liability in that game, against that opponent.

There's no hedge. He's still playing the same way. The fact he was able to keep a guy LSU never throws the ball to from getting catches in the post proves exactly nothing. Andy Ikeakor "called for the ball" down low when he was here.

I don't understand the flex offense at all. It appears Dave Clawson is the OC. It looks more like a freelance offense that needs a creative player to make it work.

Defensively, we are so weak and really do not have the ability to extend the court and I cannot understand why CBP cannot see that.

It almost seems as though the Offensive and Defensive schemes are hindering Team Chemistry. Is that possible?

The opponents Florida has faced on the road aren't even close to matching up against the opponents Tennessee has played at home.
Tennessee hasn't beaten a single team in Knoxville this year as good as Florida. Just keep thinking things are going to magically turn around.

Quite possibly the most basic offense there is. Unless you employ some sort of passing game.

South Carolina can match up with Florida on most nights.

Not really. It took a massive Florida choke job and a miracle play for South Carolina to beat the Gators in Columbia. Most night, on a neutral floor, Florida beats them double figures.

How'd the one game between them where Chris Lofton didn't play turn out? I'm pretty sure he's not going to suit up Saturday.

So Billy D didn't have an answer for Lofton in 5 out of 5 games? Even when he had the likes of 6 NBA players on his team? Lets admit it, Pearl out coached Donovan the first two years when it was clearly evident that Donovan had far superior talent.

If I recall correctly, that game went back and forth for forty minutes.

My gut feeling is that the smith/lofton years, are going to be the pinnacle of "Pearl" basketball.

Compared to most programs, an SEC championship, a couple of sweet 16s and a short, yet earned, #1 ranking aren't bad. We have to remember that we're not Kansas or UNC or Kentucky.

Outcoaching Billy Donovan doesn't exactly get you much praise. Bobby Gonzalez and Dana Altman have done it in the NCAA Tournament, when it actually matters.

So you're saying he tried very hard to do something he had no clue how to do. And how is that effective?

You can't be an average coach and have the same resume Donovan has.

Ah, the continued creep of Fulmerite logic into the basketball program. It won't be long until we get "Who ya gunna git who cood due bettr?"
