The shut down thread

The most liberal person I know, die hard leftists made this comment today. “They should just give him his damn wall, he can’t build it in 2 years anyway”.

Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross (a billionaire), just said something very out of touch with the average federal worker... "... the obligations that they would undertake, say borrowing from a bank or a credit union, are in effect federally guaranteed, so the 30 days of pay that some people will be out is no real reason why they shouldn't be able to get a loan against it." - Wilbur Ross - and there is no way he can say this and have an understanding of how personal unsecured loans work (not that I would expect a billionaire to).

These loans are secured by future income rather than material collateral, and therefore come at some risk for the lender and are not that easy to get by the people who tend to need them. The typical worker who is living paycheck to paycheck will already have a very high debt to income ratio and would be considered an at-risk borrower (even when they are guaranteed of being paid the money they are applying to borrow). Of course, they wouldn't just be required to pay back the principal balance either - there is such a thing as interest. Also, even when the income is guaranteed, I have never worked with an underwriter who wants to approve a loan to a furloughed worker. That would really depend upon the applicant's personal history with the bank. If they have proven themselves to be loyal and a good borrower (FICO score over 680 with no 30 day lates with the bank), they would be approved - but if not? No way.

The Commerce Secretary should keep his mouth shut... the worst thing you can look like at a time like this is out of touch or unsympathetic... "Let them eat cake." rubs most people the wrong way.

Honest Don says the shutdown could go on for years. Would the banks take this into account?

They need to stop fearing you guys. Ain't like you're going going to vote for the young, smart, highly-qualified democratic candidate over whatever rich, this-week-in-white-privilege candidate the GOP trots out.
They’re not worried about the democratic candidate. They’re worried about the knuckle dragging conspiracy theorist threatening them in the primaries.

Not the one I work for... Ever seen "Goodfellas"? You know the scene where the bar owner takes in Pauley as a partner to protect him from Tommy? "Had a fire? F*** you, pay me!" pretty much sums it up.

And from Eric's wife Lara: "It's a little bit of pain".

I wonder what's in her cupboard and if one of her house payments is past due?

Lara Trump: Government shutdown inflicts 'little bit of pain' on workers but worth it

Here's a real insensitive and out of touch bastard for you. Trump's Commerce Secretary and an investment banker Wilbur Ross saying he can't understand why furloughed workers don't just take out loans.

Trump's Commerce Secretary Asked Why Furloughed Workers Are Going to Food Banks
I don’t really understand it either. They’ve missed two paychecks and they need the food bank and charity to survive? A local synagogue raised money to give gift cards to TSA agents here. We have people that sleep under bridges every night but we’re giving money to people who have a job?

Highly qualified? You did not type that with a straight face. I don’t care how liberal you are. You know that’s bs.

See highlighted. That was all you really needed to say.

Financials aren’t closed for 2018. Give it another month, bonuses don’t have to be paid until 3/15.

We heard all about them last year about this time. There might not be any political motivation to announce one way or the other.

. . . and crime will go down.

Yeah, right. You really comfortable with or believe that someone below trainee level would be trusted with any important investigative work? Of course, they might be carrying love/hate notes back an forth since FBI phone texts aren't secure anymore.

Back in the day, interns were given stupid crap jobs of stuff they couldn't screw up if they tried. Half of them screwed up anyways.
I'm really distressed that the FBI is being decimated by a lack of internship help. Maybe now they won't **** up as bad as they do with their "senior" people like Comey and his cronies.
