The shut down thread

He has 26's on his Escalade. It's too high off the ground for the bugs to get in.

Dude don’t even get me started on that. I was behind this woman with 4 kids at Walmart. The oldest was probably 10, she was holding a baby and the other 2 was acting up like lil heathens. She pays with an EBT card, and as I was walking out this same woman was loading her black Escalade with 26” rims in a damn handicap parking spot. She looked like she was walking fine and sure as hell didn’t need a wheelchair or scooter.

Trump warns shutdown could last ‘years,’ stands firm on wall as meeting breaks with no deal

President Trump stood firm Friday on his demands for a border wall after the second White House meeting with congressional leaders this week broke up with no apparent deal, as Democrats exited claiming the president told them the partial government shutdown could last "months, or even years."

In an impromptu Rose Garden address, Trump called the meeting "productive" but indicated he was not shifting on his demand for more than $5 billion for funding for a wall on the southern border, saying it was necessary as the border is a "dangerous, horrible disaster."

"This is national security we’re talking about, we’re not talking about games," he told reporters. “We're not playing games, we have to do it."

But despite Trump saying the meeting was productive and conversations had "come a long way," Democrats were more dour in their assessment. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer exited saying Trump told them "he’d keep the government closed for a very long period of time, months or even years.”

Trump later confirmed in the Rose Garden, "Absolutely I said that," while clarifying he hopes the partial shutdown doesn't last more than a few more days.

That's just Trump bluster. It may last for months but it won't last for years. Eventually the pressure will build enough that Congress will override a veto.

I agree it will not last for years.

I do hope, though, that it does last for months if the Bolsheviks refuse to fund a border wall.

If you're a TSA employee, or another "essential employee" and you hear the president talk of a shutdown lasting "months" (his standard bluff, but still), how long do you keep working without being paid?
I’m “Essential” and still getting paid. Got paid last week. Will again next week.

our Fed contracts have a built in clause, added by the Feds, that if there is a shutdown, we get a 10% add to the contract. no questions asked. deadlines get adjusted, scope stays the same. just an extra 10% for us.

the best way I have seen these shut downs described is: all the money is still being spent, plus some, but not all the checks are going out the door.

i think there is a reason you see these shutdowns at the end of the calendar year, and not the end of the fiscal year when it would really hurt.

I read that in most cases this week is the last pay date. I guess it depends where you work?

I read outside contractors take a hit during shutdowns? Again, does it vary?
