The shut down thread

Neither side is trying which is really disappointing. If these idiots would stop and realize there’s a chance here to show some leadership by proposing some deals. Just getting people talking again ffs.

As long as trumps poll number continue to plummet, there's really no political capital to be gained by Pelosi capitulating. From a strictly strategic point of view, trump is under siege and running out of food.

I'm not sure how necessary it was but I imagine if she believes it was worth going on she would find a way to get there. Her shutting down the SoTU was petty, Trump returned the favor in kind. I don't think either one of them knows where the high road is, if it weren't for the 800k people having to struggle over this BS, it'd be hilarious.

Agreed.

I bet her head nearly exploded when she got the news. One of the best moves he's made!

I still think Trump made a big mistake by walking out of the meeting. As soon as Nancy refused to negotiate, he should have declared "meeting over" and had security escort her and Chuckie off the property. Not out the door ... out the gate to the sidewalk.

The President could tell her they have a C17 loading up heading that way if they can find a spot for her.

LOL can you imagine if Congress had to fly Space-A? I'd also like to see these high brow douches have to spend the $85 to get the Pre-Check like the rest of us peons.

During a shutdown the onus is on the party seeking a policy change to convince people it's needed. Trump's not convincing anyone who didn't already support the wall.

I'm not sure anybody cared much until it became a campaign promise.

I think border security did matter to many of us and that's why it became a campaign promise for the guy who won. And as Obama pointed out, elections have consequences.

This isn't about $5.7 billion allocated for a barrier at the southern border. We added $1.3 trillion of new debt in 2018 and we routinely waste more than that on all sorts of things... it's about obtaining a symbolic victory at this point on both sides. It's just petty politics... everyone knows that $5.7 billion only adds between 130 to 150 miles of this proposed barrier anyway. In the big scheme of things, that is nothing. This is so ridiculous.

A lot of people has cared for years. However no one thought it might actually get built until Trump came along.

That's why the Democrats are so afraid this time. They have voted for a wall/barrier etc.. for years knowing full well that little to non of it would actually get built. This time they know Trump will actually get it done! That is what scares them. A President keeping promises.

politics playing politics.

As dumb as Trump appears, if I were pulling his puppet strings - I may not let him in on the secret. That said, I'm not sold on collusion per se - but it is fun watching the red hats squirm when it gets dropped. Also, you keep talking about what people have "proven" without accepting that the game isn't over. Generally, the evidence is presented at trials - not in DancingOutlaws court of public opinion.

I remember watching that movie on VHS a lot as a kid. I was 9-10 years old. Every time I watched that scene I'd ask my parents what that meant and they'd of course fumble around trying to come up with a way to explain "plausible deniability" to a 9 year old. I figured it meant something dirty.

Depends on where you put it. A 100 mile wall across big parts of the American west wouldn't have the same effect as across I-75 or I-24 etc. Also the interstate system and many other things were built in stages over long periods of time. Putting up decent barriers in strategic locations becomes a force multiplier for the border patrol.

True. But 690 miles already have a fence. Some of the geography and topography acts as a wall and isn't even accessible. Those areas wouldn't require a fence.
