The Star Wars 8 SPOILER thread.

Finally saw it.

I’m with BurntOrange here, I really enjoyed it. You really have to be able to suspend disbelief and see the force as something that is ever-developing among movies.

I really thought Kylo was a much better character this time around.

Finn’s story was awful, which made its horrendously stupid conclusion appropriate. If not for his entire story, I think this movie would be received much better.

The audience clapped and cheered at the end in the theater, that tells me the majority still loved the movie.

I really really liked it. I thought the Rey/Luke/Kylo aspect of this movie was some of the best Star Wars of the series.

Glad you liked it.

The more I think about the Rey/Kylo stuff the more I really like it. They are supposed to be mirrors of each other beyond just the light and the dark.

When you look at Kylo’s heritage he comes from the mighty Skywalker bloodline and his parents are two of the most important figures in the galaxy. He was destined to be something great with that lineage and the legendary Luke Skywalker as his mentor.

But then you have little orphan Rey from outer rim nowhere Jaku whose parents were nobody’s and sold her for drinking money. Yet she is now the keeper of the Jedi principals and teachings of the Light.

Oh and Luke was right about the Jedi Order. They were cocky and smug. Their hubris was as much their downfall as the rise of Sidious. I thought so since the minute they were shown in TPM.

Very much agree, but it’s something I never considered until Luke pointed it out.

Side note: I also didn’t mind Leia “force floating”, I thought it was a neat Easter egg/tie in to the fact that Luke told her in RotJ that she would one day learn how to use the force.

Probably the single greatest review of TLJ I've seen, he nailed every single point.

Leia flying in space was cringe worthy.

I'll say that was still pretty cringey even the second time. And I still didn't care for the casino scene, though it wasn't quite as bad as the first time, but it still seemed like something out of the prequels. Same look, same feel. The people with me liked Benicio Del Toro's character but all thought making him stutter was kind of silly. And at least one didn't like that Phasma ended up being pretty much an afterthought.

Also I'll concede from before that Yoda did seem to still have the blue tint around him when he became "physical" but it was extremely faint and when he was against the back drop of the fire it almost disappeared. I'll chalk it up to an evolution of the force ghost.

Saw it again today; thought it was better the second time. I also watched TFA last night. I still say TFA is better, but TLJ was definitely better tha second time.

Ditto. Saw it again yesterday, it was better. I guess I knew because I couldn't be disappointed again that I would enjoy the movie a bit more.

I think that was the directors "throw back" to the prequels. It looked exactly like something from those garbage movies.

The milking scene..very cringe worthy and served no purpose in the movie. It almost seemed like some sort of weird sick inside joke for someone.

This is a nitpick but at the end Poe introduces himself to Rey. But at the end of TFA, he’s standing right beside her when R2 does all the map stuff.

Now I guess it could be a “we’ve not been formally introduced” type thing but just seemed weird because they acted like they had never interacted.

Listened to about half of that and his logic could be just as easily applied to the original trilogy as well. He must hate them and their silly plot holes too.

I have less of a problem with it happening than the way it was shot. It’s like they made her look angelic or something then the way she force pulled herself back just looked strange.

I thought that was strange at the end but just brushed it off like “huh... I guess they did t interact in the last movie.”

One thing I found weird was Luke was scared to train Rey because he was scared she could be easily turned to the darkside, and even commented she went to the dark part of the island really fast....then Snoke gets a hold of her and immediately comes to the conclusion that she is totally jedi and can never be turned and should be killed?

Luke already had a horrible experience in regards to training someone that powerful with the force, and as far as Snoke goes I'm guessing he simply didn't want her around. She might be slightly conflicted, but not nearly to the level of an Anakin or Kylo.

burnt, I know you've said you've watched them, how are the Clone Wars and Rebel series? Those are the only SW canonical things I haven't seen yet. CW is on Netflix (for now) and I've watched about the first 25 minutes of the movie, but that's it. So far it has been entertaining enough to hold my interest.

I did watch most of the previous Clone Wars cartoons.

I liked them a lot more than I thought I would. Like any show there is always some dud episodes (unfortunately there are a few Jar Jar centric episodes) but over all it’s really good. Clone Wars fleshes our Anakin so much better than the movies did. Some of my favorite episodes are the ones that focused on the Clone troops and their interactions with their Jedi generals. Some like Yoda and Anakin treated them like people and others treated them like disposable weapons. It was interesting. Also characters that really annoyed me at first like Asokah and Ventress really grew on me as the show went on.

We’ve talked about the force inconsistencies so be ready for some really strange stories involving the force. Particularly anything to do with Mother Tawzin and the planet Mortis.

For whatever reason the first 3 seasons aired out of order and that is how they are on Netflix which is how I watched it. Also the Clone Wars movie, which came out before the show aired, was actually meant to be 3 episodes in the middle of the first season. It’s not huge deal except for a a couple of times when a side character dies then shows up again later. You can find the correct order online if you would prefer to watch them that way.

Rebels is a little more Disney-fied in its animation style but has been really solid. It picks up a lot of things from Clone Wars so I would advise watching that first. I’ll say this.. when Vader makes his appearances in S2 it’s the badass Vader we always wanted. It’s in the final season and seems to be leading toward tieing into Rogue One. I’m looking forward to this second half of season 4.

I think they are all available on the Disney XD app is you have a cable sub to access it.

The audience clapped and cheered at the end in the theater, that tells me the majority still loved the movie.

Chattanooga must be full of curmudgeonous killjoys because I cannot recall a single movie I've ever went to where something happened on screen that caused the audience to erupt in applause and cheering, TLJ included.

The first time I saw it was an 11:00 matinee on the Friday it opened, so the theater was only about 25% full so no one clapped. But Saturday it was pretty full and a lot of people clapped.

Also during the scene where the First Order fired on Luke and he was still there, someone in the crowd shouted "Suck it Kylo!".

My name is deceiving. I live in Knox, saw it at the Pinnacle in Turkey Creek.

I was in a sold out show on Saturday of opening weekend. I heard a good bit of cheers during parts. Also the humor landed pretty well in my viewing too.

This was definitely better on second viewing. Still had some issues but overall quite a bit better imo.

Honestly, I was quite disappointed. Nothing about the film makes me want to watch it again.

- the Force ghost thing was full of inconsistencies
- the Asian girl and codebreaker characters were completely lame
- the casino planet belonged in the prequels
- no idea what they are doing with Finn
- Kylo may be the least interesting and most unconvincing bad guy of all time
- OMG Leia flying through space...
- The Frozen coyotes save the day!
- The Madagascar PETA owls keep Chewie from eating. Yay Disney!

The Luke/Rey sequences were fair, at best, not nearly enough to redeem the weak story.

I guess the Rey+Kylo fight scene was decent, after a goofy end for Snoke.

Flame away if you liked it.

Flamed. I got a few chuckles from the codebreaker and the chewie dinner scene.

The Leia space flying was easily the dumbest thing. I don’t know what that was about. Agree on Kyle too. Just not convincing for me. And WTH with the shirtless scene?
