I'll ask again, anybody have any thoughts on the "education" portion of the speech?

There is already a $5K for thye first two years and $4K for the second two years in the tax code now. He is only upping the "break" by $1K.
But, it SOUNDED great.

I can't watch any speech Obama gives in the capitol. I can't stand to even look at Pelosi... There are politicians I just don't agree with. I just get mad looking at her. I figured I'd hear both sides wring to hell and back today.

She reminded me of a Jack in the box, with all the jumping up and down she did.

He wants to make Green Energy profitable, by taxing other forms of energy into oblivion. It's a Dem thing along the lines of global warming.

It's much more than that, the green jobs initiative is the banner project for the uber left. If this initiative takes root it will bring more money and more power and influence. This is the green end game more or less, just a very carefully crafted vehicle to promote and propagate the leftists agenda.

I realize a clean environment is important and we should strive to make the world a better, cleaner place in which to live but when so much money and so much power, not to mention the unintended consequences such as those we have seen with ethanol, are at stake then I have to be skeptical. In the end I really don't think it will do much to help the environment anyway.

Whats the infactuation with "green jobs"?

I think it's because of the sustainability of natural resources and our foreign energy dependance. Saying "green" and "jobs" is an effort to appease the left and right. If the US can create an alternative energy source, we no longer need foreign oil and countries would turn to us for the technology. The problem is the uncertainties in the time frame, and of course, $$$$$

the obvious solution to our clean energy needs is natural gas and nuclear plants. of course obama never mentions either.

He said he wants nuclear plants last night, I think, but he said, "safe and clean nuclear plants.". Safe is feasible, but there still is nuclear waste, and that's a hurdle the dems will always bring up until the technology is there

He simply paid lip service to the right. He has no intention of clean coal or nuclear power. It's all solar and wind baby.

I'll say this, from an insurance perspective, it looks to be awfully expensive for a wind farm to maintain operations in the first place. Those premiums are through the roof.

On top of this, the substantial amount of energy output the US needs is not going to be found in wind farms, IMO. I think the US needs nuclear.

The technology is there, but the NIMBY (not in my back yard) aspects of nuclear waste storage continue to make it politically infeasible. The people of the county where Yucca Mountain is overwhelmingly wanted the project to move forward because they needed the jobs - but the residents of Clark County (along with an editor at a Las Vegas newspaper), seeing no benefit for them, raised up against it as a NIMBY crowd.

Ah, thanks. I heard the plug was pulled on this recently, but didn't know why....

True. I have to wonder if the "safe, clean" line from BO is his out for not supporting specific nuke projects that might come up.

It certainly could be ... it could also suggest a funding initiative in the future to push the Generation IV Nuclear Energy Systems (or perhaps research for a Generation V ).

The part I liked most is how he mentioned that 2 million new jobs have been created - 200,000 of which are construction and clean energy (or was it green jobs?). I love it. What percentage of those 200,000 do you think are pure construction? I'm going with 95%.
