The Thread Where People Argue About Kneeling in the NFL (merged)

You should direct your question to the FBI. They opened a civil rights case into the shooting. He was from the Sudan, and hadn't attended that church in a year or two.

and if I'm not mistaken had a domestic violence charge. Anyone with any kind of violent charge shouldn't have a gun. That's what the liberals don't understand. Just because there are laws, doesn't mean people won't be able to get guns anymore. Drugs are illegal and you see how that goes. All taking guns away would do, is cause worst mass shootings because there is nobody that will be able to protect you other than the police.

First off, I am adamantly against any kind of government gun grab. That being said, how many mass shootings have been thwarted by John Q? There is no way to stop what happened in Vegas. There is no way to stop what happened this week in NY. Haters gonna hate. If it ain't guns, it will be trucks full of ammonium nitrate. If it ain't that it will be a truck form Home Depot. If it ain't that....

Guns just are. They are not evil, and they are not worthy of sainthood. It's just a tool. Just like a hammer. And not any of my hammers or guns has killed anyone.

But the Klan does?

What do you think I'm saying? He said something stupid and I refuted it. Of course it is cause for concern. No it's not the biggest problem we have. The fact that I can't refute him without you probing and probing for something to nail me on is pretty telling.

Was the church shooting you mentioned about race or are you just a baiter?
Both.

Yeah, nobody should be concerned about white supremacy anymore...except maybe people who go to black churches or work in federal buildings.

You can't mock people for being victims and simultaneously cry that you're getting it the same when you are not.

What? Where did I cry that I was getting it the same? The only thing that is a victim are my ears and eyes for reading and hearing all of the crying about things that happened 75, 90, 150 years ago. My main lineage of ancestors were in Ireland then! To move forward it's best to move forward. Not to harp on all the past discretions of people from generations before us. It's caused a gridlock that is causing unrest between races. When you spit in the face of soldiers, cops, and a vast majority of white people by calling them racist at every turn they become apathetic to the situation or worse angry. Neither side will budge. It just appears that only one side is living in the present.

Players seek mediation; Colin Kaepernick to attend

At such a session, the players would get to address social justice and civil rights issues that have fueled the players' protests. The players also want to address the issues surrounding Kaepernick, and why he has been unable to gain employment back in the NFL.

The first part is a waste of time, duh, the second part is mostly a waste of time as the NFL doesn't have anything to force teams to take players. So, exactly what do they want that can get remedy? (at least not from NFL)

The only thing they are protesting is future players because those are the ones which will be hurt by all this.

I don't think the Gaints are good but man, never saw anything like that when the Saints sucked for like 15 years.

It just seems like you keep comparing yourself and people like you to blacks. The Irish were not slaves in America. The Irish didn't have to suffer under Jim Crow laws. The Irish are not disproportionately hurt by the war on drugs. The lynching you mentioned was in 1981 yet you think it's appropriate to mention the labor discrimination the Irish endured 100 years ago to show that there is no more cause for concern. It's not comparable. It's totally irrelevant.

I agree that we need to move forward, but dismissing people's complaints is not a good way to move forward. When people know there are problems and you keep telling them there are no problems, it doesn't make matters improve.

This. Also, when a person (or group of people) experiences some sort of trauma, "shut up and pretend it never happened" has never been considered the healthy way to deal with it.

So for Veterans day, the NFL did cross-promotion and outreach with the military branches. This seems to have been received by the angry public as too little too late, even though it's what the NFL does every year.

The irony of all of this is individual players have chosen to kneel. Boycotters are going to hurt everybody in the NFL, including players who disagree with the kneelers. But the players aren't really going to hurt that much. Maybe there is a little less money in future contracts, but the league has such high turnover, that won't mean much at all to most of the kneelers who the boycotters are wanting to punish. Also there is endorsement money, but most of the kneelers don't get endorsements.

Maybe the biggest irony of all is the owners are hurting much more than the players are. The owners have a long history of strong support and respect for the flag, the military, etc. The owners are essentially being punished for:

having a flag ceremony
allowing freedom of speech

During the anthem last night, Duke players wore black shirts that said "Equality" while standing during the anthem with hands over their hearts.

...and somehow THAT made people mad.

Whole new level of snowflake

Oakland Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch has raised eyebrows by remaining seated for most of US anthem before promptly standing for the Mexican anthem.

Lynch's sitting protest took place on Sunday before the Raiders played the New England Patriots at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City.

Lynch has not stood for the US national anthem since returning from retirement this season.

New England battered Oakland 33-8.

Haha. He’s such an idiot, just like Kap. The Mexican police force is highly regarded for their ethics and integrity. You know when they’re not gettting paid off by the cartels.

The majority of these guys don’t even know what they’re protesting or resisting against.

Remember, these “Protests” have nothing to do with the anthem nor the flag.......

Most of them are protesting against Trump because he triggered them.

It's a perpetual triggering machine. NFL players kneel, which triggers fans; Trump sees an opportunity to put his 2 cents in, which triggers more players; more players kneel, which triggers more fans; then each side debates who is more triggered--hilarity ensues...

It's a non issue. Stand, sit, kneel, roll over, play dead. I don't care. No law is being broken.

I think if Trump would’ve stayed out of this, it would be dead, but he didn’t. He played to his base. The whole thing is just stupid. There has been more done in the last 10 years to make police more accountable for their actions than ever before, but don’t let facts get in the way of a perfectly good protest.

That fact wouldn't get in the way anyway. "More" =/= "enough"

You're saying because it's good relative to history, then people should be content? Absolute good > relative good

The problem is the age of information has made abuse more apparent. So even if it's getting better, it doesn't seem that way. Cops are getting caught planting drugs with their own cameras. We were told this was happening and nobody cared/believed it and now we have video evidence and everybody is supposed to be happy because we caught them?
