Eagles: We accept the invitation to the White house.

Some Eagles players: We are not going because Trump hurt our feelings.

White House: ...........

Eagles: We would like to reschedule to when Trump is in Singapore.

White House: No, we keep original schedule.

Eagles: Ok we'll be there.

White House: Great, we'll prepare for the team.

Eagles: We want to reschedule a again, if we cant we are only sending very few.

White House: Invitation is cancelled.

We are disappointed that 25 year old football players didn't rise above the silliness to be the better man? How low are the expectations for Trump? (Rhetorical question)

Luther, this is an excellent response on your part. Is the wife helping you?

Neither side looks particularly grown up and open to conversation. I know you want to put all the blame on one side, but what does that accomplish really?

All the blame for what? I think some of the players acted like children (whomever was kneeling simply because Trump called them SOB's) but the Eagles are not kneelers. What specifically do they deserve blame for? Declining an invite? OK. I guess if you think that's a sin.

Pretend they're teenage girls and this is a HS party. A group of girls are doing their own thing and the top plastic doesn't like it. She calls them *****es, tries to get them in trouble, then invites them to a party and they don't want to go. Then her butthurt leads her to attack them again.

Can anybody else not see how absurd it is to try to hand out equal blame here?

Yes both sides here are to blame for not coming together to have the discussion. They weren't going to want to go to the WH even before Trump said what he said and you know that. They don't like Trump, have never like Trump, and will never like Trump.....but that doesn't matter or shouldn't matter in this situation IMO. They are trying to bring attention to what they see as injustices and they have been doing this by publically kneeling or other gestures during the Anthem. Don't have a problem in the world with that, but why stop there? You have an opportunity to sit face to face with the man who you feel is a focal point for the ideas behind those injustices and you refuse to take it because he said some ugly things about you? Maybe I just see it differently, but it seems to me that it is a perfect opportunity to have a personal audience with a man who you feel represents things that you hate who holds the most powerful position on the planet. That is what I mean for equal blame.......you need that conversation IMO for your cause. JMO

Disappointed in both. Trump should stay the **** out of the conversation with this Anthem stuff and the NFL, its not his issue, nor is it his business.

The impression that Chris Long gave yesterday, is more like, most of the black players never intended to go in the first place and when that became clear, most of the white players also decided that they wouldn't go either... leaving less than 10 who would actually be there.

We all can see that Trump has a fragile ego and that he has openly fretted over such trivial matters as the reported size of the crowd at his inauguration in contrast to that of Obama's inaugural crowd. He actually went as far as forcing his press secretary (Sean Spicer) to take to the podium on a Saturday to inform the White House Press Corps that his crowd was "the largest crowd ever assembled for an inauguration, PERIOD!".

There is one reason why these stupid little things become such a big deal under Trump: His ego.

These "stupid little things" never happened with any other administration. Just asking the question because I don't remember or know, but did any championship team feel the need to refuse a trip to the WH before Trump got in there?

That's one way to deal with race relations. Just don't deal with race relations. I mean why would you want to have a conversation with the President when you can just kneel, stretch, or hold up the black power fist during the National Anthem. Those things bring along real change...

Kim K has more balls than these dudes.

There were athletes who skipped visits to the White House under Obama. He simply didn't let that bother him or mention it. The ceremony went on with the people who wanted to be there.

Who were the athletes that skipped on Obama? I don't recall although maybe there were some.

You just wanted the photo op of 5 people and a mascot standing there so you could have something else to ***** and moan about.

Brady caught quite a bit of hell for skipping a visit.

This isn't at all what they are saying. When we can get past all the hyperbole on both sides, maybe we can have a constructive conversation.

Agree.
Would also add "they" all don't view it and react the same way either.

Reminds me of BLM in that regard.

You're right. His mom was visiting him.

He was at an Apple store looking at watches, mom could have been with him I guess. Either way, Brady didn't make a stink about it. He just declined to attend and he caught hell.

I’ll ask this again. What is supposed to be accomplished by protesting at this point? What change is supposed to be brought about? Has anyone actually given answers to these questions? Or is it we just want change just because ?

I’m convinced that a much larger percentage of players than not, don’t actually really care about the protest, but are doing it out of pressure from social media or it being the trendy thing to do.
