The Thread Where People Argue About Kneeling in the NFL (merged)

I thought the Rams defense played really well. The Pats defense made some plays but I thought Goff was tight and confused for basically the entire game. Of course New England probably had something to do with him being confused.

Brees and the Saints would've had a much better chance. I normally don't like that "the spot was too big for him" argument after a bad performance in a big game but I think that was possible with Goff. I don't know if Brees/the Saints would've won, but the spot wouldn't have been too big for them and he wouldn't have been confused, I know that.
Goff was WAY tight early on and made a couple of late bonehead plays too. The kid is young though and I think he’s gonna be a baller.

I just wanted to see a good game, didn't really want the Patriots to win but I really didn't care.

I for the life of me still can't understand fan devotion to a professional sports franchise.
There's far more people who can't understand fan devotion to a college team. Whatever floats your boat.

If I had to name my favorite NFL team I guess it would be teh Cowboys but I rarely watch them.
Dude I was a Skins fan when I moved here in ‘88. Talk about a born again exorcism conversion. But I’m solid blue and silver now. Just growing up in East TN in 70’s and 80’s you had Wash or Atl. No real choice there for me.

Growing up in VA everyone was a skins fan, I bucked the crowd.

Same thing for me in Central NC. The Panthers weren’t there, so I grew up listening to the Skins radio broadcast and watching them on TV in old RFK. Those were the days with the Hogs, Doug Williams, Mark Rypien, Monk, Clark, Darrell Green. I loved those guys when I was a kid.

And best of all... a Mohawk wearing John Riggins!

NFL made nice with the National Anthem and all of the "first responder" stuff and has been pretty much all year. If you don't think that those protests hit the NFL wallet, you need to think again.

Riggins was a bit before my time, but that highlight of him running through and over guys will live forever.

My first real Super Bowl memory was Timmy Smith coming out of nowhere and beating the Broncos with Williams and Gary Clark, and Art Monk. I still have some of their Starting Lineup plastic figures.

Who said they didn't? Also, this is business as usual for the NFL. They have a long history of pushing patriotism/civic duty.

While the report concedes that some of the money appears to have been spent on legitimate recruiting efforts, a large portion went to "paid patriotism" at games.

These paid tributes included on-field color guard, enlistment and reenlistment ceremonies, performances of the national anthem, full-field flag details, ceremonial first pitches͕ and puck drops.

Military paid sports teams $10.4M for tributes

What a silly ass context to insert a “but Trump” retort in. SMDH.
I have to agree....in the context of what GB said, I think athletes should just play their freaking game and STFU on the field and on camera during the broadcast of the event. I don't care if it's my side or not, just STFU and play. I want to see the game, not some stupid, insufficiently thought out idea that they all the sudden are an authority on. Racial or social justice to someone that makes more in a weekend than most do in a year and has celebrity status with anything associated with the court system has no connection to anything social or justice.

So, leave the asking for help to the invisible and easily ignored. Got it.

Help for what? Minority crime rates, fatherless homes, and generational welfare?

I won't do your homework for you. Suffice to say, there are libraries full of research that cut the legs out from under your oversimplification.

So Ash you’re probably close to triggering yourself here it looks like. Just a friendly pointing out noting more nothing less.

Now with regards to our sports figures and their causes. I live in Dallas. Jerry has been very clear about how he expects his players to conduct themselves.

However I can think of several current and former players in this market who have their foundations and charities and I’ll geverally listen to what they have to say... when they are in civies and not anywhere near the playing field. They have a presence within our community even when they are not on the field.
